Well, I guess I'll jump in here for everyone...
If you are planning on running BFG's on a Cobra then good luck!
You will find them to be like being on a skating rink and many here (including me) have been through that experience in the past....IMHO, just plain dangerous.
Now, if you are putting them on a heavy car like a Galaxie, Chevelle etc then they are great. Do a search on this site. There are many threads that will explain what I am talking about.

fyi, 40,000+ on my bfg 295's. No spin outs, no flats. Several 11 sec. 1/4 mile runs. Can't be too bad... Still runnin' them.

F5 460" C-6 a/t. Now has a TKO 600 and much worse traction :-D Just a road car, no track time. I like the wear and price is right for me.

I love BFG TA, the look, ride. I did have an experience on a dry rode., I blipped the throttle and it was like black ice, spooky

On a heavier car they are no better. I've had my share of scary times with them on an early A code Mustang, which I suppose outweighs a Cobra by 800 lbs. +/- & has no where near the horsepower of the Cobra, so it isn't just a horsepower thing that is a drawback to them.
I took them off my '66 Galaxie 500 as soon as I bought it, and you will find many many posts on the vintage Mustang forum about their notorious lack of traction. Of course you will find more posts about how great they look and are loved for that reason alone.
It's a tire a that sits squarely on the intersection of great looks & scary traction. A deadly combination.

I guess it has to do with how you use your car. I use them and like the look. They fit my driving style. I do not race or do stupid stuff on the street. Just a cruiser. I will not use anything larger than a 15 inch tire so these work and are inexpensive.
They do their job.

look into the 15" Avons. They are not inexpensive, but how much do you drive your car ? If you drive 2,500 miles a year, the Avons will probably last you six or more years, and you will have a car that is much more entertaining to drive.

The simple fact that you're getting that mileage out of your tyres confirms that they are way too hard to give anything close to acceptable grip in my view. The drag strip is a completely different matter to normal road use. You are able to get them really warmed up, which you can't do on the road.
Tyre wear is an unavoidable trade off against grip. If the tyre isn't wearing, it isn't gripping....period. The other important issue is tyre age. If they're lasting that long, unless you're driving high mileage in your Cobra, chances are they're getting pretty old. You shouldn't be driving on any tyres older than 10 years.
We use a saying over here, if you have a £10 head, get a £10 crash helmet. The same applies to tyres. You really shouldn't be choosing tyres for a Cobra based on price in my view. These things can bite in an instance and you want the best tyres you can get to keep you in contact with the road.
I can't say I'm never going to lose control or have a crash, but if I do, it won't be because I've penny-pinched on my tyres.

yes, it was on a prepped track. auto trans with a 10" converter is very forgiving of bad traction/hard tires. No unloading and shock loading of tires/suspension during upshifts. power is applied very smoothly, makes a big difference. no, it won't do that on the street...

I put on around 8,000 miles per year. The Avons are way to expensive for me. I'll stay with the Radial T/A's.
