No tubes....
Why are they cracked? Aged?
Might want to replace if cracking

They are cracked because they do not contain plasticizer additive used on street tires. "Billboards" are race tires and have an expected half life of a weekend. UV exposure and ozone cause the tires to crack. It is to be expected and is one of the reasons that they are molded with "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE" on the sidewalls.
If you run them plan on a new set yearly.

I'm not if "can be fixed by using tubes" meant that he actually fitted tubes, but here's an old comment about the Billboards:

Only "bad" points I've experianced... They flat spot when they've sat. That goes away in a few miles. They leak air through the porous sidewalls. That can be fixed by using tubes. They bite very well, so if you hit a batch of "uneven" road (where the grind it down to lay fresh stuff and it's all lines) or going over a grated bridge, they will grab the ruts and pattern in the road and you will fight to keep the car straight.
Other than that, I love them. I will be putting another set on when these are done (they have tons of life left at 8k BTW).

I had a set of BB's for years and they never lost air but did have a big crack where the tread met the sidewall. They were sold as a set with wheels and the current owner still uses them. Going on 7 years!
I have another set that's 18 mos old with the same big crack along the tread/sidewall. Never had any air loss issues. Just waiting to get some pics done before I slap Avons on there.
For those that lose air - how old were they when it started?

I usually get 3-5 years out of them. However, our season is short and cars are under cover

Yup. These have less than 500 miles on them, then the car was parked for quite a while (about a year). One by one, they cracked and blew out. Some cracks so big I could fit my finger in them! What Mark IV says is true. I confirmed it with Goodyear..."made to buy on Friday, race the weekend and trash them on Monday".
AVONS now!;)

Is it possible that those vacuums might have something to do with the condition of your tires?

My car has a set since I bought it 2K miles ago and previous owner put 3K on them. They have started to crack a bit so I swaped them to prevent the same sides to be exposed to UV.
I've been told that to keep them in the dark helps...
Anyone knows of any spray that could be used to help preserve them?
Thanks
Luke

ERAChas, who used to post here quite often and knew his stuff, recommended Gold Eagle 303 protectant spray. I have purchased a bottle but I cannot confirm it works as my car is not on the road yet and my Goodyears have been in a dark corner for about 3 years now. https://www.goldeagle.com/product/30...ive-protectant

I can attest that the 303 protectant does work very well on Billboards. It also leaves a factory looking sheen to the sidewalls, too. Then again, maybe I just got lucky on my last set (car since sold)?

Cool. Thanks guys!
Ordered my 303 and will let you know how it works. I have a set of racing wheels kept in the garage I will also spray to see how that helps.

Larry,
Where did you get the tubes? And do you have some part numbers for them?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
Looking through all my receipts, there is one from Les Schwab Tires (local tire supply/service chain) for the following:
Product Code: 08443154
Product Description: MR14/15 TR13 Radial Passenger Tube
Price: $12.24
Date: 07-24-2004
Hope this helps.
