I have decals now, but I'm sending a sample to be made in rubber for a more permanent solution.

I custom ordered this set from Tire Stickers, along with the blue line.
Sanded off tire lettering for a smooth surface, then glued the rubber letters and lines with supplied glue included in the kit. Looks authentic and seems durable.

That looks really nice. What tool(s) did you use for smoothing the sidewalls first?

Thanks

I experimented with a a couple of different procedures and tools.
What worked the best was a 3" medium scotch brite pad on a 1/4 arbor mounted in an angled air powered die grinder.
It went fairly quick and had good control.

I had pin drive wheels on my first Cobra, they were a pita ....always had a vibration.....now I have the lugs and they are smooth as the baby's bottom...

What was involved for the custom order from tire stickers? Just a change of size?

^ It was fairly involved, all I had was a photo off the internet of an original blue streak tire. I sent that image to Tire Stickers. We went back and forth with with several computer generated renderings. Finally agreed on one, stickers were made and sent, however, the letters were wider then our agreed rendering. Sent those back, It took three sets until this current set was acceptable.
It was a hassle, but Tire Stickers as a company was accommodating to my requests. The ideal way for them to make exact copies of the original blue streak lettering would be to send them a tracing off an original tire.

Great stuff racco and wolf k.

Have either of you also considered the "BLUE STREAK" lettering to go on the "bottom" of the tire sidewall.

Tire Stickers looks like a good source of custom lettering.

wolf k: for the blue stripe, did you send a tracing or did you provide a set of dimensions (diameter, width etc)? If so, would you be willing to share the dimensions you used?

Were the dimensions unique to your tire size, or were the dimensions per the vintage tire size?

I am shooting for the original Blue Dot street tire look of the 427 Cobras and I have the "blue dots" available.

Cheers
Greg

Here's what the "blue dots" look like on my BF goodrich tires.

Now to smooth the sidewalls and order the Goodyear and Blue Streak lettering and put them on.

Cheers

By the way, here was the e-bay find that was the source of my "blue dots".

A very close match to the original color.

Cheers

I opted for the Michelin TB15 tires through Coker tire, I wanted a performance tire with the correct sidewall to accommodate the "billboard" transfer stickers.

Looks real, I just don't trust the bf tire on a high power car.

Hi racco. OK. Busted.

BFG's are not a high performance tire.

But then again. I'm a boulevard cruiser and I don't track the car.

A lot of Cobra mishaps have happened on high performance tires though.

Drive carefully.

Cheers

The blue stripe is an "off the shelf " product from Tire Stickers. You have several choices of width, I selected the narrowest at 1/4 inch. They come in four segments per tire. For the diameter, I simply followed a line that was molded in my Mastercraft tires. I believe the original blue streaks had the blue line more in the middle of the tire than were I placed mine.

CSX 4133,

I would really like to see pics of your car with the Michelin TB15 tires. What sizes did you go with? How do they perform?

Thanks for the info wolf k. Wonder if tire stickers kept the dimensions of your final letters for anyone else to order?
