Default Nitto 555G2 tires

Anyone tried them or have any experience with them?

I just installed a set last summer replacing some Goodyear F1 GS D3's. I have about a thousand miles on them. They are very sticky. The one thing I've noticed is that the side walls on the Nitto's seem to be a bit softer than the Goodyear's so the car doesn't feel as tight in the corners. I've bumped the tire pressure up a few psi and I'm playing with shock settings a bit to try and get the handling closer to what it was with the Goodyear's.

Any information on importers of these Nitto 555 G2 tires to South Africa?

Hi Guys,

Any updates on the performance of the Nitto G2 tires? I'm thinking about installing a set on my cobra but still not sure.

Thanks
Joe

Installed first set 2017 with 2016 date codes. All good

New set installed 2022 with 2022 date codes.. All good again.

Performance grip and provides a degree of safety when roads are wet.
Nitto makes a companion drag radial 555G2 for rear tire positions.
Same 555G2 tread pattern but softer compound with more
tire stick on hard or drag race launch requirement

Tire size availability was good in 2022.

All mine balanced out fine and delivered what was expected.

OP is currently using something other than the Nitto's I believe.

In addition, before you resurrected it from the archives, the last post made was over 3 years ago. The OP's, over 4 years ago

I seen that but Unique427 posted today and shared his experience with the G2"s the last few years and shared the info I wanted to know.

I have had them for about 4 years. Mine get flat spots when it sits a while. The flat spots disappear when you take it on the highway, but it is about a 15 minute drive to the highway and the car vibrates on the way there until the tire are warm.

Handling is good. Stopping is good, and they balance fine. It is just the flat spots that are annoying.

And yet, the original OP changed to a different tire (he was here in SC with me just the other day discussing tires), might be a reason that you are not thinking of when you post in a much outdated thread, instead of starting a fresh one.

Thanks for your reply, How are the tires off the line with hard acceleration? I heard some of the mustang guys complain of the off the line wheel spin but they are also running a 265 wide compared to 315 or 325.
Thanks again.

I don't care if the original OP changed to a different tire, I just want to know what the peoples opinions are on the tires who have run them in the past or are running them now. Thanks to the people who have replied to this thread.
Do you have a opinion on the Nitto G2's??

For track, they work just fine, for the street, like the ever loved Billboards, and even the Avon radials, not so much.

Do you plan to race the car on the track? If so, then the Avons are your best bet.

If you are street driving, then a set of Cooper Cobras will be the better choice.

Plenty of experience with all of them, different cobras, different events, but still hands on, real world experience.

Again, sometimes you are better off starting a new thread, then bringing one back from the dark archives...In this case, you started with dated information, and even per the person who responded, dated information, or limited usage as you personally intend.

Bill S.

PS: Living in Canada, you do realize that you cannot use the nittos below 55 degrees F, nor are the well rated for use in the rain, right?

The cobra is a street car no track use, will not be driven below 55 degrees and not intentionally in the rain just a weekend toy. I will also look into the cooper cobra tires never thought of that brand. Thanks for your input.

BTW I did a search on the G2's and this thread came up sometimes if you start a new post someone will say " did you do a search" what ever I do is wrong sometimes. LOL
Take care.

Well, my car has about 800 crank HP, so they spin regardless, but for handling, they do a pretty decent job without going to something ultra sticky with a 80 or 100 tread wear rating. They are the in-between tire when comparing something like a Radial T/A and a Nitto N05.

Mine is a 315/35/17 on the rear and 255/40/17 on the front.

Yes you are right with that kind of power every tire will spin I have Nitto 555R on the cobra now and only got 962 miles on them and there bald I have to replace them before driving the car this spring. I was looking into the G2 they have much more tread on them but I'm afraid I will giving up to much traction I also looked into the Cooper Cobra but they are not made in my size. Maybe I should try the G2's and take it easy with gas pedal Thanks for your opinion very appreciated.

Have the G2 a little over a year on 17's. Had MT SR's on 15's and were fine. Handling is better and as always when warmed up sticky by comparison.. Playing with air pressure for ride comfort. Do not race except on ramps!!! Been in Mts and rain and very pretictable for me. 400 hp at the wheels so spin occurs. Quite a few in AZ have Cooper Cobras and no complaints so far and better than TA's that seem to get harder every day when i had them.
Hi speed long radius turns 100 mph i felt still had room for more speed and felt planted with 24 psi
