Damaged wheel

It's hard for me to tell from your pictures. I would need a larger picture maybe showing half the rim to see the damage better.

But there are shops that repair aluminum rims. Cost about $125 in our area.

That is a lot cheaper than a rim.


Google "aluminum rim repair" for your area. Most large cities have them. Or check with the body shops. They get rims repair all the time.

Team Three Wheels may be able to help you. They are 200 miles from you.
He may be able to tell you someone close to you that could repair the rim.

From the markings, that is very likely from Trigo (trigowheels.com), unless Vintage's wheels also have "Cobra2" on them.

Am I seeing that one ding in the rim correctly - it's from the inside to the outside? If so, very strange.

That wheel has had multiple alloy repairs.

What's the go with why the wording of "WHEEL LOAD" is cut by a new hub
centre?

Your "dings" look like fractured welds, and there are other telltales of this around the rim.

427SSSS, so you have no idea how the damage occurred? What's the history of the car and the wheel? Have you just bought the car?

There's got to be a story here :confused:

Tell us more about it and maybe we can understand the damage a little better.

If you order a new wheel from Trigo, be sure to specify the width, backspacing and hub depth.

All that information should be on the rim. Look on the back side. Engraved. May have a serial number also.

the other rear wheel looks exactly the same, [the wording of 'WHEEL LOAD" is cut]....the "flaw' that cuts thru the words, "wheel load", go ALL the way around the entire wheel.

I bought the car when I lived in Texas, a few years ago, it was a rolling chassis. I have NO idea how the damage occurred. I had new tires put on a couple of months ago, as the car is now complete and ready for registration. Did not notice the damage till a couple of weeks ago.

If I do decide to purchase a new wheel from Trigo, I was intending to send them the wheel and request that they duplicate it.

I think I took and posted ALL the markings on both inside and outside of wheel, hard to read, even looking at the real thing right in front of me.

Not knowing the manufacture, I assumed a replacement wheel would cost upward of $500.00. Now, knowing, with all your help, that's it's a Trigo, and only cost $300.00, that's probably how I'll go...still searching for wheel repair shop in my area, Atascadero is a small town, think I found one in nearby Paso Robles, I'll be headed to his shop later today.

BTW, she has a 351 beefed up to a 427 and runs like a bat out of hell!!!!
Took the painted body off another FF5 and put it on this chassis, as her body is out for paint.

Got it repaired for $50.00...awesome job!

I was expecting that, since that shows the centre has been cut out, and swapped from 5 or 6 stud centre to pin drive.

Glad it only cost you $50 to fix this time.

I've yet to see ANY wheel that looks like the centre has been cut out, as noted by the casting wording identification in the earlier photos.

What your seeing is a casting line, the center of the wheel has not been cut out then a new center welded in. **)
I would have saved the wheel as well, a small weld then clean up and polish.:)

Yeah, I suspect the mold was cut to insert a new center configuration for castings. Does cause a second glance though.
