wheel bearing dust cover

I wonder if that's why the original SC's used a center cap on the front wheels and nothing on the rear?

Do not know if you can see much detail from the attached pic, but the Contemporary chassis I picked up had the pin drive hubs that were drilled and had a 'D' shaped pin to hold the centers on. Someone had discussed this on a thread a while back and still had some of the pins, but they would not be that hard to fabricate if you wanted to go that direction. I guess another option would be to drill and tap and use a counter sunk set screw like some use to hold the 'decorative' spinners on(?)

The outer end of the adapters have about 1/8-3/16ths of an inch without threads. One or more small set screws could be installed around the perimeter. Just be sure they are below the surface of the threads so the knockoff could be removed without the removal of the end cap if needed.

I was told that the originals didn't have the dust caps on the rear because there were no exposed bearings on the rear to protect from dust, so they left them off.

Would a little RTV around the O ring help? The covers pop off when the wheels are removed. Drilling the covers isn't an option though. No adaptors. They're 6 pin hubs.
