295/50/15 TA's are in!

Sorry!! FALSE ALARM!! Got a call from the Tire rack to tell me the 295/50/15's were in! I ASSUMMED they were talking about the TA's, but they were talking about the Goodyear GT II's!!
I just saw my order online, had to call them to cancel!! I originally wanted the GT II's but went with the TA's!

bigrob,

how can you already need tires? How many miles do you have on 126?

eric johnson 05-23-2008 04:14 PM

I would rethink the TA's

They aren't so hot. Two hot track laps in they will go away. ( Just when you are starting to feel comfortable on the track) . You should try the Avons as they are pretty good - more stick.Just my two cents !

It's not so much that I NEED them, but I like to start fresh with a new set, not really knowing how much the car sat with the PO, flatspots, out of round, that kinda stuff bothers me. The tires have 13,000 on them. For now I am keeping the backs on, not much of a choice with no availability, but I did put new ones on the front. They are cheap enough anyway!

The CR6ZZ.

Scroll towards the bottom of the page. Nice tires, but they are spendy.

GOODYEAR COBRA TIRE SHEET

Avon CR6ZZ.
The best 15" DOT radial presently available in Cobra sizes.
Do a board search, there's tons of info here.
They are not cheap.
Happy motoring.

Can't Tire Rack get the Avons since they are/were the sole US supplier of this line?

eric johnson 05-24-2008 03:34 PM

Discount Tire had them not too long ago.Check there.

bigrob 05-24-2008 05:44 PM

Man!! Those Avon's are pricey indeed! My Cobra is a once in a while warrior and will only be street driven. Don'y know if I can, or want to, jutify paying that much for those tires! I appreciate the info though. What about the others tires shown? They are listed with different type measurements. Which ones would be the equivalent of the 245/60 & 295/50 ? I checked Discount Tires and they do not show that they carry Avon on their website, at least here in Vegas. I figured out the sizing never mind! What other tires listed would be OK for the street out of curiousity?

Thanks!!

Yes, they are the 2nd tire down from the top on the link I had in my original post.

I ordered a set should have them sometime this week.

I think the Avons are too pricey as well. A couple of our local FFR guys are running Cooper Cobras. They seem to like them and do mostly cruising with their cars. Do a Google on Cooper tires and check them out.

I'm getting all confused  I hate to change to different tires NOW, that I already put 2 new TA's on the front, but getting the rears will be a problem! I am tempted to do the Avon's, knowing I have some awsome tires would be very nice, but they are alot of $! The billboard's lettering looks to big for my taste. I checked on the Cooper tires and they are real cheap online. About $356 for the 4....but.....they want $121 for shipping, which is a joke!!! There is a local dealer here in Vegas I can probably go through if I want, but if they are not a whole lot better than the TA's, what's the point. Can I put 245's in the front? I have 235's now. I will have to give it alot of thought!

One thing to remember is that no matter how much HP you have, or how good of a suspension set up you have, without good tires the other parts do not matter.

Yes, the Avons are spendy, but you get what you pay for. The only reason I went with the GY BillBoards is that I could buy them from a local outlet. Whenever possible I try to support local businesses. Plus I like the look of the BillBoards better from the pictures I have seen.

I hear ya! And I just might spring for the Avon's. My car does get loose on corners with NOT alot of throttle. How are the billboards as far as grip goes?

Don't have them on yet.

However, there are 5 threads in this forum with BillBoards in the title. Take a look at those threads.
