Default 17" Tire combination?

I have a Superformance and I am going with 17" wheels which are at the chrome shop right now. I would like to know what others are using for tires because it looks like it will be impossible to find a 335/50/17 and a 275/50/17 that will have a nice matching directional tread and sidewalls. I think I am looking for something that does not exist. Any input would be a help. A friend was running 335/35/17's (Pilot Sports)but they are almost 2" shorter then my current tire and I would like the tire height to be between 28-29"s.

Thanks, Jake

Jake,
I thought the 35 would be to short, but they look nice. If you look in my gallery, you will see the Goodyear F1 Supercar 315/45 17's I used run. High side walls looked great, but they are no longer made. I run the 335/35 17 rear and 275/40 17 front Pilot Sports. They no longer make the 335/35 Pilot Sport, just the Pilot Sport 2 ( PS2). Not much to choose from!!!!!
I am still thinking of lowering the car a bit more, just haven't had a chance. When I had the ride height, springs and alingment done, it was with the larger rear tires.
Scott

You can get tires in 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 from Goodyear, DSG3 I think is the model, PS2 from Michelin and Sumitomo HTRZ

I've been running the Goodyear DSG3's 315/35/17Rear and 275/14/17Front for a little over 30,0000 miles and am extremely pleased with their performance and wear.

After seeing the 315/45/17...I am in love. That is the look I want! Anybody have a NOS pair of those laying around the garage?

Default tires

I got my Sumitomo HTRZ from tirerack.com.
Very pleased with these. I even bought a second set and put them away.
It was around 375.00 for all four with shipping.

I have a Superformance with Kumho Ecsta's. 335/35 ZR17 rears and 275/45 fronts.
The tall sidewalls of the Kumho's fill the wheel wells perfectly. See my member pics.

The tires are super sticky as well. They are available at the tire rack.

ou812545,

What kind of mileage are you getting out of those Kumhos? As a track tire with a treadwear rating of 50, I suspect they're pretty short lived on the street aren't they?

I looked at tire rack, and didn't see any 335/17 in the Kumho. Did you just buy them?

Scott, I just checked with Tirerack and Discount Tire and they both said that the Kumho is on national back order with no forecast as to when they will make another batch (months if at all). They may fall to the wayside like the F1 Supercars. As much as I like the Pilot Sports I think for the difference in money I will try out the Sumitoma HTRZ's. I think the price went up a little but I can still buy all four tires for the price of one Pilot Sport. If they work well I may buy an extra set or two of the rear tires in case they stop production on those as well. Thanks for all the helps and pics!

Here is a photo of my 3.35X35X17's on the car. They are HOOSIER A6's, not street legal according to the stamp on the side wall, have not been able to find street tire's in this size other than the Michelins, I like the looks of the car and the fit with this application:

Thieleng,

I do like the looks of those on your car but what kind of mileage are you getting out of them and have you ever been caught in the rain? Those look like a hydro-planning accident waiting to happen.

So far I have about 1100 miles on them and I have not noticed the tread wear everyone thought I would have. The car has only seen rain once and that was during the 06 WSCB when it had 50 miles on it. I do not have to be caught in the rain to know that these tires would suck should that happen. So far we have only received 4" of rain for the entire year so I have not had an issue. I also have a spare set of tires and rims that I will put on the car if I am worried about the possibility of getting caught in wet conditions.

Jake,

That would be a good idea to have an extra rear set. I did that with my first F1 Supercar tires. I still sold the fronts that came off the car for $100 each since they were in good shape.
Good luck!!

Default tires

Jake,
I just looked and I bought from tirerack.com sumitomo HTR-40z tires.
Front is 245/40 zr 17
Rear is 315/35 zr 17

I love these tires for the street. Not sure how they wiil be for racing but not needed in that case for me. I've put a hurt on them and they still show no wear.

RE: Mileage
My Goodyear DSG3's have held up very well. Replaced the rears at 20,000 and at 30,000 the fronts are still going strong with plenty of tread left.
Have only done 3 "track days" with them so the fronts don't get too much heavy wear. Have the front and rear alignment done at the start of every season.

Default Update on 17" tires????

I just ran my BFG Supercar size rears half flat for 5 miles, ruined the sidewall, and they are no longer available. It was a 305/45/17 BF Goodrich. Does anyone have something hidden away or a secret source? I loved the way they fill the wells.

Otherwise, I was going to go with either the Sumitomo HTR Zs available at Tirerack, or the new Nitto NT05 from Discount tire direct.

The sumis seem like the best bang for the buck, although the Nittos look like super performers but at almost double the price.

Any feedback out there??

Thanks

those tires are something else !

I went to a 16" wheel so I could run them.
