Goodyear 'billboards'
Does anyone know that specific type of Goodyear tire that has the white lettering, noted within this section as "sports car specials" but I cannot find the exact sub-name to look them up and compare prices?
I'm looking for 15 inch tires, Goodyear "billboards" and have no idea why this search is so difficult. Any input - thanks. |

Thank for the link - it's very helpful - question - The B tires have a note under them stating that they are not DOT, is that the same for your tires? In other words they are really not for road use, correct?
They look awesome on your car. By the way, I did run across a stencil for those tires - just in case one needs to re-do the lettering. But, you probably already know of that item. |

Although you will find lots who love the GY BB's not everybody does. I don't want to put them down but just be aware and make a good choice. My car didn't do real well with those tires. Swapped them for a set of the MT ET Street Radials and I gotta say they made my car a lot of fun to drive when the Gy's didn't. Stickey and nimble. They are radials with a DOT rating and compared to the bias ply the MT's are in a different league. A little cheaper in the wallet too. I guess it depends on what your using them for but I don't recomend the GY's for street driving. A lot of guys will disagree with me. Good luck. John |
I have Avons and GY Billboards for my car.
You can't beat the look of the Billboards and they do just fine on the road (just need to make sure that the tires are balanced correctly and that your car is aligned and set up properly). |
Has anyone asked Rodger for a club cobra "group buy" ?

I'd like to have a set on my Cobra but they only come in 15" and I have set of 16" and a set of 17" wheels. I dont feel like buying a new set of wheels right now.

I'm more than likely going with the GY Billboards - I've got real mag Halibrands (15 inch) and the look is just to good to pass up.
By the way, some of you may think that you would like Halibrands from the era, but they are a ***** to keep shiny. |
cobra de- the wheels have to be rare & expensive. Them with the Billboards, would be great !

When you let them 'patina' they corrode into the ground and you can't replace them. For that reason I keep them polished. It's among my least favorite jobs on the car and it's about every two weeks in the damp and rainy season.

For a quick week to week job when they're just 'cloudy', I use Mothers aluminum polish-it's relatively cheap and gives OK results. I use Flitz (crazy expensive) for a really bright 'hard' shine. Wenol is excellent too. Apply with old cotton face towels which have good scrubbing 'tooth' to them. Remove with toilet paper -the cheapest industrial kind. Easy to use and gets every bit of black muck off, then throw away. If they're really going gray, I start with 0000 steel wool, (will not score the metal) Mothers, THEN face towel, Flitz and tp. I love the wheels but hate the valve stems-wish they were in the Trigo location. You mention Powerball-how do you clean it for reuse? Do you buy a lot of them and dispose? Is it effective on the fronts where there's not much offset? Never heard of Maas-I will look at their web site. What's your experience with that? Forgot to mention, I prefer doing this when the wheels are up and you can rotate the tire. I can quick-jack the fronts one at a time but the rears are a PIA unless I have it on jackstands for work. I think we're nuts... |
MAAS does a good job, I've tried all sorts of products - I'm going to look into Flitz and try your entire 'system'.
Valve stems - my exact same experience! Very difficult to polish around them, especially the front one's. Powerball - the small one is for metal - actually, they are around $25, therefore - they had better clean up! I was so surprised when I first cleaned my powerball - soap and water - comes out looking perfectly clean and almost new! Yes, great for the rear but not so great for the front - but, still good. The pressure that can be applied through the use of a powerball on a drill has a really shiny result without the level of work. And yes, having real mags is insane - they seem to be alive at times - sort of like rust never sleeps! |
