Painting rubber ?

Gentlemen:

I am getting ready to paint my blue dots on my tires to replicate the original blue dots on a street cobra. I bought some ranger paint to try on a junk tire I have sitting around...ok, now the question.

I'm looking for ideas on how to tape, glue, fasten a stencil onto the tire. The circle is 7/8". I'm toying with masking tape, thick cardboard stencil...????

Ideally I'd like to create a build-up as the original blue dot was and I think someone suggested cutting out a piece of rubber and glueing it to the tire, just not sure how that would stay on long term...

I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.
