Tires???????
I am in the process of selecting what tires to use. I like the look of the Good Year Billboards but was informed that they are not DOT approved for street use. This look is important to me as I like the old school look. Do I take my chances with the fuzz or do you know of another that is DOT approved

If you get stopped by a cop and he/she gets down on their hands and knees and inspects your sidewalls, you were already going to get in trouble for why you were stopped in the first place, so who cares?

Oldschol, I used to have the same mindset, more so for an insurance claim situation vs. John Law dressing me down. After five years I finally said "Screw it." See my gallery and don't sweat the small stuff...you only live once.

AVONS look great; very old school but expensive. I've had them a couple of weeks now; great tire; supposed to be the best of both worlds.

Goodyear "billboards" for sure, check out a thread on here "Goodyear billboards in motion" or something like that, that alone will convince you.
If you still are worried, go to www.finishline.com and look under"vintage decals" then scroll down to tire stencil's. They have goodyear, avon, and firestone stencil's. I've heard of someone having avon rubber but put Goodyear stencil on there tires;) I don't worry about having the "billboards". I truly think law enforcement has other (better) things to worry about than our tires. And like Red said above..if they are on there hands and knees checking out your tires...your in trouble anyways!**) Plenty of threads about these tires. Do a search. Chris |
I chose Avon over GY for 2 reasons:
1. Insurance claim - I don't want to be denied because of running non-DOT tires. I'm not so much concerned about collision coverage as I am about liability coverage. 2. Having driven GY bias-ply slicks on the track (and around the paddock), I wanted the smoothness of a radial for the street. BTW, I find the Avons to be almost as sticky as the GY slicks, so I'm am very, very pleased. YMMV, Randy... |

I ran mine for 3 years and no one every asked if they were D.O.T.. However, I now run radials for the ride. I put the slicks on when I go to the track. I would buy the billboards again!
