I built my car to look like a street car but when you start talking 2 to 3 to even 4k for a set of wheels just so it looks "correct" no thanks i will stick with what i have.........

If you look a various CSX 3xxx cars there seems to have been different offsets to the sunbursts. When I was at the Boulder museum they had a street car with rear Sunbursts that completely filled the rear wells very much like the Halibrands, but in looking at various pics and the green Canapa car, for example, the rears are the same as the fronts and end up looking a little "puny" in the rear wheel wells. Maybe one reason that a lot of people swapped them out back in the day. QUOTE] Ofdset/widths on Sunbursts are the same, keep in mind that there are effectively THREE different rear fender styles so a Sunburst on an S/C would look lost. The "narrow hip" cars look "right" with the 'Burst, a wide hipper or comp car-S/C looks "goofy". |
I think out of the 600 or so Kirkhams built thus far, I only think a handful of street cars have been built. How many original CSX3000 cars are there in street configuration? And maybe a another couple handfuls of street 427 ERA's? Would a manufacturer be willing to risk capital on such a venture in this economic climate?

Good point on the narrow hipped car thing Mark IV.
Rodknock, Registry says 3 Street Kirkhams made, 2 with oil cooler scoops and 1 without (thats the one on the Kirkham website) that car is in Southern Oregon, then mine, then the red car that is a full street spec replica, with orig style suspension gauges, the works. That car was in Indiana or something like that and EBayed a couple of months ago. Maybe more made since then, don't know. Kurt |
Hello All,
I have the check book and ready but, would want the Sunbursts for either an SPF, Kirkham or CSX in the Street roadster configuration i.e. Trigo fitment/George Petrus SS knock offs, with the Aluminum Sunburst wheels as the center section. If it were 16"/17" to allow for better tires that would be over the top but, 15" with Avons will do the deal for me. I asked for the three options because I am still deciding on which manufacturer to go with for my new Cobra. My target is an orginal looking street roadster with an FE, five speed and more sports car than race car cruiser, blending modern technology with 40 year old looks. Look like this but, Black with Tan seats, Tan Dash and black carpeting: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/CSX_3357.jpg BTW looks in the registry of the Coil over 427 Cobras, 23 Sports competition originals, 29 full competition original roadsters and 354 street original roadster were built, there were some COB coil over cars also that were sold in Europe. sunburst wheels
hello all:
we are in the process of producing this wheel in 15" x 7.5" ,then maybe 17", the first article is due in aprox 45 days . they will be pin drive 6 and 5 pin and 5 lug bolt on as an option.these will be aluminum for durability and cost. We just finished some 15" magneisum wheels with a unit cost of 1100 ea. and these were vintage racing wheels. Yes they were light, but not designed for the rigors of street use. Is the five pin wheel for a Trigo or Vintage adapter? They aren't interchangable. Larry |
Team Three Scott,
A search show you guys in San Leandro CA. If your interested, my Orig Sunbursts are at Tommy's Auto Center on East 14th. Happy to loan one to help in your efforts. Tom has his Kirkham at his shop if you want to see the suspension layout. Kurt |
Hi Scott,
Good to hear from you , it has been a long time since I visited your shop. Can I stop by and talk to you guys about your plans for the Sunbursts. My questions are fitment ,cost and will they work for the options I am considering i.e. Kirkham, Shelby CSX and SPF. Tony R. |
Wow, go Team Three!
I'm actually a couple minutes from Team Three, so if anyone interested in Team Three's new offering (Sunbursts) and needs logistical help, pics or whatever, just shoot me an email or PM. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but I'm local to them and would be happy to help any Club Cobra members. |
stop by any time

Thanks Scott,
I'll plan to stop in later this week, do you mind if I get some pics of the wheels you are planning to build and sell ? I will post them here on CC if that works for you. TR |
This is exciting stuff. For some reason I thought Sunbursts had the same width but a slightly different offset front to rear. If we could get a standard wheel cast with some meat on the inside of the hub they could be machined to appropriate offsets, pin #'s etc.
|
Hi Scott,
I would love to see pictures when you have a 15" 6 pin front and rear available to fit Kirkham cars. Todd |
My orig. sunbursts rub on the brake calipers and the tie rod joints. From the looks of things your customer list is shaping up to feature Kirkham and CSX owners. Solve the rubbing issue and get the offsets close to the Trigos and I'm in.
Kurt |
the 15 x 7.5 wheel we have is 3 1/8" back space 5 pin wheel, the 6 pin trigo 7 1/2" wheel has 3 3/8 back space so this wheel should not rub the tie rod, as for the brake where does it rub. On the face of the caliper, or on the od or id of the caliper?

Scott, any pics? How about pricing. On the 5 pin any chance of a deeper backspace?
Thanks, John O |

Hello All,
I visited the Team Three folks today and talked to Scot and his wife Jin. I spent about and hour there and they are in the midst of getting the mold mocked up and starting the process to manufacture the wheels. The question we need to answer is who wants them and what are the specifics of what you want. Scot hasa 40 year old wheel sitting on his office floor as a model but, the new wheels will be new Aluminum, Clear coated etc. etc. Here is a link to the T3 web site with wheel & tire sizing to help with your input. http://www.team3wheels.com/ac/ There is also a tire sizing chart at the same web site. 15 inch 0r 17 inch What widths for the front and rear wheels. Five pin or six pin drive. Scot as for me 8 x15 front 10 x 15 rear, Five pin compatible with the Trigo used on either the SPF or Shelby CSX. Tony R. |
