I talked to M & A Castings a few years ago about making some reproduction Sunburst wheels and I seem to remember them saying around $40,000 too. Plus they would keep the molds once finished. I just didn't think too much of that.

Thanks Shapeskis,

That is great news, looking forward to seeing the product, USD pricing and sizing information. I would also want a wheel for the rears that would allow for wider tires and fit on Trigo knock off hubs for the SPF or CSX. I am still in a decision loop as to which Cobra Street roadster I am commiting to for my next project.

I noticed that this is your first post on CC, what is your association with the after market Cobra wheel industry that brings you here for the first time?

I'll let you know what I know about this person. I spoke to Mike Mulcahey about the set of sunbursts he had for sale, he still has them and now wants $10,000 for them. I decided to pass on that set. He told me that he had tooling made up to make the sunbursts, but sold the tooling to this person in Canada. He is a dentist who is doing this in his spare time.

I called just a few minutes ago and left a message for Shapeskis (I won't post his real name here unless he says it's OK). Once I see offset, backspacing and hub thickness measurements and know for sure that they will fit, I will order a set. I will be happy to post pictures here. I am all about helping the little guy in business, as long as he takes care of his customers.

I also would prefer a 9.5" rear wheel, but after my last conversation with Team III I don't think that it's possible to do it.

BTW, $675 CDN is ~$640 US

Default Sunbursts

Good Day to all.My name is Lain Vendittelli and I am new to the club cobra forum so be nice.
Our company name is The Classic Wheel Company. Yes I am a dentist but dont hold that against me. I am all about details. The die that I purchased and subsequently had reconditioned was fabricated using an original sunburst wheel. 5 prototype magnesium wheels were manufactured using our die. They are beautiful!!! Needless to say I have spent much time money and energy having the die corrected for any design flaw and finding a North American foundry that was willing to manufacture the wheel. We are ready to manufacture. I am working with a well established tool and die company locally here in my home town. Our web site will be up shortly. Please be patient. I have a large General and Cosmetic Dental practice. I devote most Fridays to my love affair with vintage automobiles. You can visit my website www.martindaledental.com if you like. If you google my name Dr. Lain Vendittelli you will find that I have been busy enjoying my hobby. I have a beautiful family and have had a blessed life. You can phone me anytime at (905)-685-2338 . Thats my cell #. Someone from the club cobra site did leave a phone # starting with an 830 area code but I was unable to connect.
Regards
Lain Vendittelli

You must have some kind of block that won't allow you to call Canada. I had left him the message he mentioned, but I left him the wrong number to call me back at!! D'OH!!!!

He called me back today (I e-mailed him the correct number) and we had a nice chat, the Doc seems like a very cool guy. As soon as I know the wheels will fit I am ordering a set.

Hi Guys,

The Doc sounds like a stand up guy, I heard from him by PM and would like to understand if he has solved the issues surrounding a larger wheel/tires for the rear. The original cars with the sunbursts look have a large amount of room around the rear tires. The Team III guys said that this is an issue that they could not get around.

I was thinking about asking the Doc if he would send one wheel on consignment/deposit to see the wheel, test fit it on the car and remove any doubts about the wheel.

Please let us know about the wheels quality, sizing and fit as you move forward.

Tony R.

Hello All,

Spoke to Lain earlier today and he sounds like a honest person with a legitimate product to offer.

He sent several pics on the wheels and the following sizing info:

Wheel Diameter 15 inches
Wheel Width 7.5 inches
Backspace 3 and 3/16 inches
Hub Thickness 3 and 1/4 inches

That answers some of the questions, we discussed the wider wheel at 9.5" and he felt that he could do that and was looking into the details.

very nice, almost looks like there is enough room to drill for bolt on applications, stud holes might fit between the spokes
