Well, had the fronts balanced on the car today.

Right front was fine. Left front was the problem child. And remember, these wheels and tires have been road force balanced twice and regular balanced three times.

He balanced the entire left front rotating assembly while on the car and got it spot on.

SHIMMY GONE. Smooth as glass now.

It's a lost art form of balancing. The machine is from the late 60's and all it does is spin the front wheel/tire/disc/spinner/safety wire, etc., up to freeway speeds. The mechanic puts his hand on the fender and feels where the imbalance occurs. Then he stops the wheel applies weights by educated guesses and then repeats the process till all vibration is gone. No computers used at all. Has to be voodoo!

AND IT WORKED!

If all else fails, find a shop that balances this way. If it is a balance problem, it will solve it if the tech knows what he's doing.

The place that did mine was just like you described. An old tire spinner and good old touch, guess and check. Took abot 15 minutes per front tire. He refused to do the rear saying it was too unsafe. Cost about $35.

I'm glad it solved your problem.

John
