Default big block id tag question

I have a big block toploader with 1-3/8" input, long tailshaft and the tag on the case is
RUG-AU
PILOT
That makes it, if I 'am correct ,a 1970 fairlane/torino 429cu,
So there is no serial number on the tag, just capital letters PILOT directly under the rug-au.

I have been told it's just a designation of where it's made, plant etc.
But everything I have seen has a serial #
Any ideas?
Daniel

I can't say for sure what the tag's designation is without checking my interchange. But, if you are wondering about the serial number that relates to the chassis, that is typically stamped into the main case . It is usually on top, at the rear, just ahead of the seam for the tailshaft housing.

Thanks,
I'll look for there. I spoke with Perogie Enterpises and they have never heard of PILOT on a tag. I then spoke with David Kee, he has never heard of it so asked for some pictures and he would forward to his friends at Ford. They're sent, lets see what comes back.
