Default Top bolt lenngth

I,m putting a T5 into a 302 block. My bell housing measures 1" at the bolt hole location. If I use a 2" long bolt it bottoms out before it is tight. Should I have a flat and lock washer or any washers at all?
I'm afraid if I go to a 1 1/2 " bolt I won't have enough bite into the block.
Should the bolts have thread lube or locktite? Looking for opinions.
Thanks all.

Screw the 2" bolt into your block and measure how much distance there is between the block and the underside of the bolt head. I always use a washer and lock washer. You can get bolts in I believe 1/8" increments at your local hardware store.

I'll bet if you put a flat washer and a spring washer it will be perfect.

Use a 1.75 long bolt and a lockwasher, no locktite, or as an alternative an AN washer and a little locktite. Use quality bolts Grade 5 (3 mark) or Grade 8 (5 mark) hardware.

Thanks all. Already have grade 8. I think in my circumstance the 2 washer set up is the answer. I started with what tcrist said and that's how I came up with exacts. I" exposed with 1" of housing after the bolt finished out. I was leaning to the flat and lock set up, and now that's what I'll go with.
