Brent, I know I just got the Mcleod Super Street Ford/long arm kit and Ram 20 lb flywheel from you, but will the Dual Disc RST fit my Ram, Toploader and older Lakewood. Will it fit in there and on the small input WR input shaft??

Bill,

There are less expensive options that will work behind your 408. Keep in mind though that as horsepower containment goes up, engagement smoothness goes down. I have some Powergrip HD clutches from RAM that will hold 650hp and more. They will even hold a 7.50 1/8th mile car leaving on slicks with a 1.55 60-foot time. However, if you have anything less than a 3.73 gear, there is a possibility that you experience chatter. Ernie (Excalibur) here on Club Cobra runs one and I've driven some street/strip cars that ran them and they were smooth. However, I always have to give that little disclaimer.

The RAM Powergrip HD clutch kit would a little under $500, with the cost depending on which throw out bearing needs to be used with your particular combination.

The McLeod RST twin disc that is in this thread is $699 plus the throw out bearing.

It does not have a flywheel with it, so you can use your existing flywheel without rebalancing. If you wished, you could always have the pressure plate checked for balance at your local machine shop.


Joseph....yes. But why would you want to change just a few weeks after you got the new parts?

500 miles on my RST now.

Really like it, when it gets hot it really sticks. Easy pedal effort.

Havent tried this Rally type clutch yet so I cant comment on durability, I have used the std 7.25" sintered bronze race plates and they lasted surprisingly well with limited road use and positive driving!
I am not a fan of the organic riveted linings, go to the track and all I ended up with a disintegrated clutch plate!

With the button flywheel/flexplate the engine will have a noticeable quickness in the way it increases and decreases rpms, I guess there is some power to be gained and not sure as I run a Jerico trans whether there will any advantage in gear changing...!!
I had the same set up, its a very fast set up but the twin disc I got from Brent is much much more streatable and pleasant to drive. To anyone asking if its worth the exrtra money the answer is yes. If you want to be able to get in your car and not worry about driveability it cant be beat.

It depends on how much horsepower you're dealing with. If you have around 500-550 there are certainly cheaper clutch kits to deal with that and do it smoothly. However, once you get over that horsepower amount, the disc materials start getting a little more exotic and you start running into the possibilities of chatter or instant engagement.
