Default Mystery part in T5 Z

I am helping my son with a T5 Z spec trans that he is redoing. We initailly had someone take it apart and then we got it in boxes. There is a rubber ring about 5/8" wide with a 1/8" wall thickness that looks like it is intended to slip on the mainshaft splines. I cannot find any pictures in any of the overhaul manuals that discuss it. What is it and where does it go???

Maybe the o-ring that seals the case cover at the shift rail to the extension housing? The extension housing slides over the o-ring which is on the exterior of the cover. Only other o-rings are on the speedo drive.

No it's not that. It is much more substantial. It has the interanl part splined as if it was intended to be on the main shaft? Just not sure where nor what it's purpose is??

There is also an o-ring on the reverse idler shaft.

It's a shipping protector.....

All Tremec boxes have them. Most of the time when people get the transmissions, they just shove the slip yoke into the end of the transmission and it pushes that donut further onto the mainshaft. You can leave it out.

Thanks Brent, I found that out this AM. When shipped and before installation it is put on the end of the output shaft and seals the transmission so no fluid (or foreign matter) can leak out or get in at the tailshaft seal. Had me going for a while. I thought it might have been some sort of "Bumper" that I over looked, after all they use an "O" ring as one on the reverse idler shaft.

Default Plug

My son had a similar incident on a automatic transmission, he was going to change the fluid and filter an when he dropped the pan he found the plug they use from the factory to plud the dip stick hole floating in there,an didnt where it went an called me, i told him what it was.
