Tremec TKO600
My '09 TKO600 with 7500 miles still feels like day one
Anyone ever try Cobra Valley's Ultra Shift? Did it make a difference?
Thanks.

What is the problem you are experiencing? My SPF with a TKO600 and ford shifter handle / Hurst worked flawlessly. Had only about 2500 miles on it in 10 years.

It's incredibly notchy and has never relaxed.
I called Liberty Gears and they said that since I'm not racing the car, their basic synchronized upgrade is recommended at $800. Sounds reasonable I suppose but 4-6 weeks, not so much.

I would not count on Ultrashift for a substantial change. I bought my trans from Liberty and got the upgraded synchronized unit with the Pro 5.0 shifter.
TTC Transmissions
It is getting better and better after 1300 miles. I only expect it to get smoother. I have no trouble shifting. Granted I am not trying to power shift or anything, that would just be a one way ticket to the ditch. But I can shift quickly and smoothly.
Shifting into third can be tricky if you try and manipulate it. Here is an Olthoff video that explains that if you have not seen it.

I would get the synchronizer kit from Liberty and install it or have it installed.
Once it is apart I would go with an upgraded shifter also if you can swing it.
Good luck!

Thanks, DB.
I'm familiar with all the info you posted, included having that upgrade on another TKO600.
I was just looking to see if Ultra Shift helped some people.

Detroit Bill,
Have you tried shifting quickly from gear to gear (especially 3 to 4) at 6000 RPM? That is where my trouble starts. I can't shift from 3rd to 4th at 6000. It only goes into gear after the rpms drop back down. That is why I've considered a Libertys Gears transmission.

Rodney, have you tried changing to a different tranny fluid. I vaguely remember that there's one preferred tranny fluid that makes the TK0600 shift more "buttery."

Yes many times no problem from zero miles on.

Rodney
I have not had any problems with my TKO600 trani since using Cobra Valley's Ultra Shift. I have no problem shifting to and from any gear including 3rd gear. I don't even have any problem shifting into reverse like I have heard of.

The shifting problem is a timing problem that affects the locks in the 2/3 gate caused by the way Tremec made their shift rods. The Liberty kit fixes this problem. Brent has a fix also and it sounds like the Cobra Valley Ultra Shift upgrade might also address the gate problem.
If you are adventurous, Liberty will sell you just the pieces. That and a Tremec service manual from the Tremec site will let you easily do the upgrade on a Saturday. If you send it in to Liberty they also have a countershaft bearing upgrade that is worth the effort.
Ed
p.s. Just took a look at Cobra Valley's Ultra Shift. It is a lubricant not a mechanical fix for Tremec's bad lock timing in the 2/3 shift gate where they struggle with the 3rd gear engagement / 2nd gear disengagement timing.

I tried Cobra Valley's Ultra Shift. It did not work.
The street upgrade Liberty Gears did the job. Shifted like a wore out T-5. Could not miss a gear!

Thanks for the input, guys.
I'm not going with the Ultra Shift.
Possibly upgrade or more likely a new TKO from Liberty.

If you want to shop a bit, you can also look into Hanlon Motorsports. If I remember correctly, he's been doing the carbon fiber blocker rings longer than Liberty. His website isn't much - he's a small business, but if you read up on Bob Hanlon you'll be very impressed. I've been to his shop and he really knows his stuff. I have a TKO600 with the blocker ring upgrade and Pro5 shifter and am happy with it. Very personable guy to work with and completely trustworthy so I recommend him highly.

Both are good, I would always buy from B2 for trans stuff, he builds them for these cars, plus he has helped everyone on here numerous times so you really can't go wrong, might as well support one of our own...
