Default Ford Toploader 4-Speed Transmissions

I appreciate Brent taking my suggestion to begin a new section on transmissions. This should, hopefully, tie together questions to one area, as opposed to searching CC for answers to your questions.

The majority of transmissions that Cobra owners use are either the OEM Toploader 4-speed which was produced from 1964-1973 and the Tremac 5-speed in its various forms.

The great thing about this section is that all transmissions (manual) share the same operating characteristics. As such, troubleshooting is pretty similar across all transmission lines. Some do have there own "personalities" but, by and large, they operate in pretty much the same mechanical manner.

Hopefully, people like David Kee 4speedtoploaders.com will participate in this discussion and help us through the theory, troubleshooting and building stages if need be. If anyone has an expertise in this area, please feel to add your thoughts and opinions. This section should save members a lot of headache and, hopefully, dollars in their search and selection of a gear box. Don't be bashful about asking questions. This should be a fun and informative section.

What does David Kee know about Toploaders?

The better question might be: what doesn't he know?
