Check those specs out! Yes, thats a factory troque rating of 746nm for a warranted service life on the box! Good weight to it, and the ratios are pretty good.

numbers?
Not sure if I understand your list of numbers. I understand the gear ratio part, but the rest???
I just got off the phone with a Jon Veith from Tremac. I didn't realize they do not sell to the public directly.

I do not fully understand your numbers but the TKO II can handle more torque than the TKO or Tremac 3550 and the top gear does not step as high. This limits top end speed but provides more performance for typical road racing. It also provides a more useful gear for legal highway driving. I am installing a TKO II in my car.

Carroll,
Are you sure that the TKOII can handle more torque than the TKO? My understanding was that the only difference between the TKO and the TKO II was 5th gear ratio.

Just to clear up any confusion. The TEUT1806 is a T56 6 speed. Its rated at a huge 550ft/lb of torque. The TKOII is rated at 475ft/lb and the TKO is rated at 425ft/lb.
The T56 has 2 overdrives, 5th & 6th. 5th is a bit shorter than the TKO at 0.74 and 6th is a real economy cruising gear at 0.5.
Cheers

I am using the aftermarket with wide ratio on the bottom and close on top it also has a mech speedo output.

I don't know what the engine builders are doing to the TKO 5-speed, however many Superformance Cobra's have 600+ ft/lbs. torque being put through the transmission with no failures... I don't know if it is Tremec underrating the torque or some sort of modifications.

BANDIT 1:
Its called traction. Put a set of slicks on, hook it up tight, and see what happens.

Jeff's right. The guys at Dynamic really push the 3.73 rear. I'm sure this is because they figure the tires will break loose before anything else "breaks". Put a lower gear in along with some slicks, rev it up a few grand and dump the clutch. Yikes!

I hate to be the one to tell you guys, but there are many Cobra's including mine that have had slicks on them and the transmission is still fine. There are alot of 460/514 c.i. engined Mustangs, Fairmonts, etc... running tubbed out with slicks at the drag strip with Tremek TKO transmissions. It is a fact that Tremec "underates" these transmissions, it is just suprising by so much. It would be a crazy statement for someone to say that a SPF Cobra with over the 425+ ft/lbs. torque small block, 485 horsepower 460, 535 horsepower 460, 600 horsepower 514, etc... engined car has never ran with slicks.
Watch a Nascar race and you will see a "rare" rear end problem and they will say that the Ford 9" "style" rearend was only made for up to 450 horsepower and that the Nascar engines are putting out around 750 horsepower.

Mnay SPF with 500 ft lbs of torque get by just nicely with the Tremec 3550. They have some much slip that it is hard to have the wheels fully hook up and use all the torque. I still like the safety factor and the better gearing ration of the TKO II -- I blew out the gears in a former sports car that I owned.

I've got the old plain jane 3550,put in my car in 94 or 95,has 16,000 miles and I go to the drag strip 3 or 4 times a year,so far,I've chainged the fluid in the trans. once,no problems since day one and shifts smooth as silk..Running a 351-W,approx. 350 hp at the flywheel. A buddy has the same trans in his 90 Mustang installed in 1993, behind a 377 stroker putting out 415 hp. It has seen a ton of drag strip passes probably over 200 with the same results as I've had....Can not say one bad thing about mine or his.... Back then,I do not even think they had come out with the TKO yet, only the standard version avaliable then....Love them 5-speeds....
