Default Whats the best transmission ?

Hi everybody,

my cobra is equipped with a 302 and C4 with Hurst shifter. I have some problems with the C4, sometimes 1. gear doesnt work right. I'm thinking of replacing, but there are options; like another C4, C6, AOD, TH350 or else. I think I have to stay with automatic, since there isn't enough leg space for shifting. Please let me know what you would recommend.

The engine is stock Mustang (prob. early 80's), but I plan to do some tuning - reducing tolerances, alu heads, Webers, looking for high torque at low revs.

The C-4 is a great automatic but yours probably need a rebuild. The Pro-5.0 Mustangs run beefed up C-4 automatics behind 1000 HP Nitrous monster motors. I think Jegs and Summit sell reworked C-4 trannies. The C-6 will be beefier but it is a HOG very heavy and it will suck more power from your 302.

Here is a link to Jegs

If you want to run a real low rear gear(3.55, 3.73, 4.10) you might consider a reworked AOD. This will give you great low end and still give you livable rpm's on the highway.

meanwhile I learned that the C4 is a good choice, so I will have this thing fixed and prob. beefed up, and may be a new converter with a higher stall speed.

What! No Leg Space!!! Isn't that an "original" Cobra trait??? I'll bet it's real hot in the cockpit too. Just Kidding!!! Mine is the same way. however, mine is a West Coast Cobra which is just a little bigger than an original.
Anyway, try this link. . . I have one in mine and it works great!!!
