tell me if im right on this one. from the decode the main case looks to be a 68 Galaxie and the tail 68 mustang. so my question is. is this right or do u think this is a rebuilt tranny some time in its life

Default I doubt the application matters.

I have 3 of the RAN transmissions in a '67 galaxie behind a 289, a '66 F-100 behind a 352, and a '74 Bronco behind a 302. All are small input, small output but are designed very similar to the top loader. I think you'll be fine.

Regarding the casting numbers, I bet they are fine and not cobled up. The galaxie one has a long tailshaft but no place to mount a floor shifter. I would assume your mustang tailshaft does?

While not a performance transmission by any means, I bet it will hold up for a while at least behind a 460.

Arrow

I think the internals are some of the same that came in the 4spd. The casting numbers on the case are only partially relevent, since the cases were used in all versions as was pointed out and the internals and tailshafts were what determined application. It should hold up fine, especially if you're not racing it.
