Tremec Shifter Adjustments ?
I need advise on this topic.
I have a TKO that now has 1k on it. I am using GM Synchromesh Fluid. The trans still shifts very notchey. I was hoping that after break in that it would loosen up!
My shifter is located at the mid location, so I am limited to the shifter manufacturer I can use. Is there any adjustments to this shifter that I can do to help my situation? This is my first Tremec, but it seems to me that the shifter is just a simple lever assembly.
I have done a search on changing fluids to something else, Red MTL or D4ATF, etc. I will try a change there also.
I have attached this picture, hoping it may help.
Thanks,
Bud

Bud;
I can't offer a lot of help here, but I have a "regular" Tremec with 18,000 miles on it now.... Have always used Redline MTL from day one and have had no problems... A couple of other guys around here have the same trans and same fluid and same results, but a lot of people swear by the GM Synchromesh.... Planning on changing my fluid for the first time later this week and bought the Gm stuff to try. My shift location is in the rear and I am using the stock shifter sent with the trans...
Again, not much help here, but I have never had a problem with mine from day one, it has about 150 miles of road racing and about 50 1/4 passes on it along with 18,000 street miles and is holding up very well....

George,
As I understand it, the Tremec will always feel a little notchy due to it shift rail design - I recall seeing an article on it - here:
http://www.moderndriveline.com/Techn...its/tremec.htm
"Borg Warner transmissions are now owned by Tremec Corp, however, the design remains the same between the two transmission lines. Borg Warner transmissions, for the most part, use a single rail gear selector and carbon fiber lined steel synchro rings where the Tremec transmissions have a single rail moving three shift rods internally. This three rods have spring loaded detents that make the transmission feel notchy during shifting. Instead of carbon lined steel synchro rings, the Tremec is built with solid bronze synchros with no linings. It is for these reasons that the Tremec does not like to shift well above ~6,500rpms."
Hope this helps,
Jim

They start notchy, but loosen up with miles.

Also, the TKO has internal stops, so there is no need for shifter mounted stops. Just FYI. If you are in the market for a nice aftermarket shifter for the TKO, I recommend the Pro 5.0. Really improves the feel, and is well built.

Stops are in the transmission. Tremec told me to back external shifter stops all the way out so the internal transmission stops are used. By the way, you don't need a fancy shifter kit for a Tremec, just a lever and knob. My is made from polished 304 stainless steel and the transmission shifts very smoothly (3 yrs in service). I was able to adjust shifther length, height, angle, and knob diameter to perfectly suit me. Cost was zero since I had the materials.
