Default T5 Question

Hey guys...using a T5 from an 88 donor car...cobra will use a 351W with over 400HP...will the tranny need to be beefed up or should it hold out at this rating????

Some work some don't. My first one lasted 860 miles. It let go while I has driving with my wife,so I was even driving pretty easy. I probably have 300-350 hp. Upgrade to a Tremec. Jim

depends on your driving style. If you like to shift hard, it won't be long before you turn 3rd gear into gravel. If you're a street cruiser and shift it nice, it'll last. Then again, you wouldn't need 400HP for that.

Cool

Along with the comments of these gentlemen, rear gear ratio and tires also factor heavily into how long this trans will last. Cobras being relatively light will help, but if you are running a steep gear(3.73&^) and sticky tires, forget it! Also, the condition of the trans initially may be suspect. If it was abused in the donor car, it's days are even more numbered. Of particular concern in these trannys is where the input shaft pockets into the main shaft. Very susceptable to wear here. Run it as long as you can, but don't be surprised if it gives up relatively quick, depending on all the above mentioned criteria. Good luck!

Lighter, just as strong, and you can keep that glorious smooth change

You all take care
