Default NEW gears for TKO`s

Im sure there must be a manufacturer or gearbox specialist
that might be willing to cut new 1st gear ratios for the Tremec gearbox. How about a 2.95 similar to the T5 1st ratio.
I guess people with tremecs in the cars would swap out 1st gear for something more useable with longer mph. Loads of English guys would go for that as a winter gearbox rebuild project.
A tremec with better shifting arrangement and a 2.95 1st/ .83 5th would be a great gearbox and would finally lay the good old toploader to rest.

Adian,
I totally agree with you.
My dilema is that even if I swap the diff for a 3.07 ratio one, the rpm drop is only 13%, not much for all the hassle and the cost. I still would have to get a new gearbox with an overdrive if I want to cruise at a healthy engine speed..
A TCO II with a longer first gear (i.e. 2.78 ratio)would be ideal. I just want 1st to 4th with the same ratio as the toploader (first could be even slightly longer) and the fifth as overdrive.
Why Tremec makes that box with such a short 1st gear is a mistery to me. Who wants that ??
Maybe they are shooting at the drag guys who want to get fast off the line. But even in the US there must be enough drivers wanting a good and precise box with closer ratio for use on curvy roads.
Well, maybe there is someone out there who allready makes a mod for the TCO. Lets wait for some some answers!
In the meantime I'll have a look at the T5 and G-force JT5. Maybe that is an alternative.

Steven

Hey Two Pack
Whats that ZF box out of your using? Is it the ZF box as used in the Aston Martin V8?
Thanks
Adrian

Eljaro,
I' am pleased to hear that you have a cobra in Spain, I an thinking of moving my car to Begur on Costa Brava, the roads are made for cobra's.
Check the Era forum, for the rear end information, a while ago they talked about changing ratios.

I have a TKOII with 3.31 rear let me know the speeds you are looking for and I'll check them with my car.

ERA649
My engine is doing 4000 rpm at 80mph.
One option is for me to get a 3.07 ratio differential if I can find one or get the gears and do the changing myself, or wait for some interesting gearbox Paul from 5speed is putting together. The later option would be best, since it would allow for a high top speed. Reaching over 150mph on some lonely Autopista is not uncommon. Not possible with the Cobra as it is geared now. Which speed do you achieve at 6000rpm in 4th with your gearing? And in 5th ?
So you are moving your Cobra to the Costa Brava! Platja D'Aro is very close to Begur, have friends there.
You will enjoy the roads there, especially up the Pirenees and in southern France.
Let me know when you are there; Maybe there is a chance for a small Cobra meeting.
