Top loader shifter - what brand is this?
I'm getting some parts together for an upcoming project, and I'm wondering if this toploader shifter is any good? I'd expect that it'll have all the adjustability that I need (because of the heim joints / rod ends), but I can't see any aftermarket brand name stamped anywhere. Could this be a modified standard shifter?
Does this setup look farmiliar to anyone. I haven't ever had this trans in a car, and I'd hate to have shift problems once the new car is together.

The world's fastest GoKart..... The little YZ125 in my shifter kart just isn't doing it for me anymore, so I'm fitting my 398/toploader combo into the Stockman chassis. It should go alright.....
Oh, did you want a serious answer? Umm, it hasn't happened yet... Details, details...

Ahh a 398 powered Go Kart. Not so much a Shifter cart as a Sh!ter cart. Change you pants after every drive.

Looks like a Hurst or clone. Should be great if it doesn't have internal wear that makes it hard to use.

It's a Hurst. Make sure it's adjusted correctly before you assume it needs rebuilt. There's a slot at the bottom of the shifter body and holes in all the levers. With the trans in neutral, a dowell (drill bit) should fit snuggly through all levers and shifter body. Believe it's 3/16-in. dowell, or one that just fits.
If the dowel doesn't fit in neutral, disconnect the levers, slide the dowell (drill) in place, then adjust the levers to fit the levers. This will correctly adjust the shifter. If it doesn't shift right after doing this, the shifter or transmission is the problem.
Hurst used to rebuild shifters. Check with your local speed merchant to find out if this is still done.

Andy: The shifter should be identified as a Hurst shifter on the side of the shifter body. I just went by the physical features of the shifter in the photo to ID it. Also, there will be a bunch of patent numbers, so many that they will take up most of the space on the side.
You're right in questioning whether it's a copy or not. Nothing is sacred anymore. Oops, should we call it a reproduction rather than a copy if it's not real .
