Default Transmission suggestions

Any suggestions on which transmission to use with a 418W 515+hp and a 373 rear end? I have a T-5 now.

Thanks in advance.

I'm using a Tremec TKO with the .62 fifth with a 3.73 rear end. Its a great tranny and is rated at around 450 lbs. torque. I cruise at 2100 rpm at 70.

Thanks for the reply. Your Tremec sounds like the same ratio as my T-5. I might just try the T-5 and see how it works after I install my new engine.

If you can afford it, you should try the T56. The TKO with the .62 fifth has a wide gap between the fouth 1:1 and fifth. Or you could change the fifth with the optional .83. It all depends on what you like though.

Thanks for the info. I'll check into the Tremec transmissions. I still have time to decide before the snow melts.

BUY A 3550. IT WILL HOLD UP UNDER THE 418 UNLESS YOU DRAG RACE IT EVERY WEEEKEND! ALSO THE CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE, AND YOKE ARE THE SAME AS THE T-5. TKO IS DIFFERENT. YOUR TIRES WILL BE THE WEAK POINT!!!!!

Default 3550

The new TK-600 has a more usable first gear 2.87, and the 0.82 fifth ratio, and a higher torque rating.
Regarding transmissions with the 0.62 fifth gear to me that is an economy gear, and is also to high to give a reasonable gap after the 1.1 fourth gear.

Another point you may want to consider is the power band of your engine, if its doesn't run smooth until it gets to eg. 2500rpms then its worth optimising the gearing to coincide with the desired normal cruising speed.

Any indication of when the new 500 and 600 series Tremecs will be available? The best I've been able to get is March/April.

Default Tranmission

DonC,

Not sure when the new TKO-600 will be available, I did read somewhere that it wasn't going to be much different in price compared to the 3550/TKO, but that will remain to be seen.

Still considering a Jerico 4speed or Toploader, but as I am thinking seriously of going 393 cubes, and dont want a total rev rocket with a 302/347 small block the cruising 0.82 fifth is of interest!
