Retraction and appology
Red Roberts called last night in response to one of the faxes I had sent and offered to exchange my old style T/O brg for McLeods new Gen II bearing. No upgrade charge!
In addition to that he suggested I exchange my slip on brg for a bolt on style and that if I could overnight it to him by Wednesday he and McLeod would send me the bolt on next day as well so I would have the new brg by this Thursday or Friday.
I inadvertantly mistook McLeods work load for their unwillingness to help me or respond to my issues. I appologize for any veniom I may have spewed toward McLeod on this site.

Clois,
Congratulations on your success with McLeod.
I had to get the new bearing as well and so far it is working fine.
Although I did have to pay a 50% upgrade charge.

Clois:
Enlighten me on new vs old style T/O bearing.....
I have the style that slips onto the TKO nosepiece, and is located with one shoulder bolt. Is this the onw that was giving you grief?

The old style brg utilized banjo fittings and would be threaded onto an aluminium bushing that fit snugly over the pilot shaft of your transmission. The problem I had w/ the old style brg was after a short period of time the brg would start to leak at the banjo fittings and ruin your clutch and pressure plate. The new style (Gen II) does not use banjo fittings and are supposedly not prone to leakage.
However, my situation got a little more complicated since I also installed new McLeod aluminium flywheel, performance clutch, and performance pressure plate. My new aluminium flywheel was in fact thicker than the steel one I replaced creating a minimum tolerance issue. I could not locate my T/O brg far enough back on my transmissions pilot shaft from my pressure plate fingers to obtain the minimum gap of .100-.125. Therefore McLeod is sending me a bolt on version that will solve my clearance problem.

I went to the Mcleod site and studied the new style fittings. Do they sell the fittings only, or is an exchange necessary? Who was your contact there?

success
Clois, and all you guys,
I have the first GEN ll throwout bearing that was released to the public as a test piece.
After returning my old, "banjo fitting equipped" unit twice to be rebuilt I was able to find out about the new piece and offered to test the piece...thought it could not be any worse than the old unit and the new fittings looked great.
It has been installed in my 289 car since last April and has been leak free...worked flawlessly.
This unit is very similar to the Corvette unit...GM abandoned the patent recently, or they would have been using it for years.
There are NO BANJO fittings...they have a 90 degree fitting that is retained in its pedestal by a roll pin...at the bottom of the hoe is a double o-ring that I think is in compression.
There is a NEW OUTER HOUSING...you CAN NOT retrofit the 90 degree fittings to the old housing.
SEND BACK your old unit, they will remove the "guts"...the ram will get new rings and install it a the new housing.
The units are difficult to disassemble yourself as the button heads are very small and tend to strip before the lock-tite releases. Ask me how I know.
My dealings with McLeod have been good, but I drive to the shop and stand there...I have met Red and George, they have always ended up being helpfull.
It is a small operation...Red is tech support, wears a headset and answers calls as he walks around...George is the shop lead and is always busy.
I was surprised at the lack of service a few people have related, but was pleased to hear Clois and a few others got the new piece. I bet the service will get better with time.
Clois could you repost your photo of your unit so the other folks can see the new fittings?
Pete

I talked to George just a few minutes ago. He said to send the old unit back, requesting a replacement/upgrade, and he'd turn it around in a day or so for $30.00.
Sounds great to me, so under the car I go.
