I don't use kickdowns
I have always disconnected the "kickdown" rods on my C4's and C6's. One reason being that the valve-body kit I usually use (by TransGo) recommends it, the other being that when I am on the track, and squeezing the throttle coming out of a turn, I don't want the tranny to decide to change gears on its own, and throw me into a spin.
When I want the tranny to "kickdown" - I just move the lever to the next lower gear.
I have even experimented with changing the shift detent patterns in the C4 shifter (using an early shifter with a later valve body) to get the pattern to accomodate my driving style - which is pretty much manually shift each gear, even though the valve body will shift on its own.
