Richmond 5 speed Help needed

Engine and trans in...clutch adjusted. I can shift into all forward gears but reverse just won't go. Feels like I'm hitting solid resistance. It HAS been in once, but have not been able to get it back.
Is there any adjustment that can be made? Don't see anything in the installation papers and the unit is new.

Any pointers would be helpful. Or websites like the diagrams on the toploader thread!

The Richmond is pretty wide. When I installed mine into my ERA I had to spread the transmission tunnel a lot before I screwed it down. Could your shift linkage be rubbing against the underside of the transmission tunnel?

Also, lift the boot and make sure the shifter is not hitting on the fiberglass tunnel or chrome ring. Steve

USrowboy You are pushing down on the shifter to get it into reverse. Slap it down in neutral and pull back. I would also check the tunnel from under the car and make sure you have it centered. I have a 6spd nash and had ERA add a square out to the tunnel because the shifter sits 1" back in the car. You set the linkage up with the pin in it?? In the begining the shifter is very stiff but will loosen up after 100 shifts. The reverse works on a lock out so you can't go from 4th to reverse by accident. There is a special high temp grease for the shifter you should put on it every so often. Hope this helps Rick Lake call if I can help any more 732-254-3536

No boot or tunnel problem here. Haven't installed them yet. I'm toodlin around the parking lot right now. I will give Rick Lake's advice a try this am and report back. Thanks guys, for the quick response!

That was it! Thanks Rick, its' a little stiff but yes, pushing down did the trick. Now that I know what to look for, it's easy.
Soon now.... I'm doors, seats and floor carpet away from the road. : )
