Default Swap out 1st gear in a Tremec?

Is it possible to swap out the low first gear in the Tremec 5 speed to get something closer to the gearing in a TKO 600/500? Just thinkin' this might be a cheaper path to get around the 3.27:1 first gear ratio in the Tremec and settle on a higher first gear ratio.

Small problem. You will have to change the countershaft as well. That will get costly.

The T-5 (Summit Racing calls it the super duty with the letter Z in the part number while others call it the world class T-5) has the 2.95:1 and can be had from Summit for about a grand and tax free outside of Nevada.

The Tremec TKO 500 is not a good fit (has a 3.27 1st gear), look into the TKO 600 or TKO 600 (road race). They both have a 2.87 1st gear which is a lot better, this way you will not have to shift before you get a cross the intersetion at a stop light.

5th gear in TKO 600 = .64
5 th gear in TKO 600 road race = .82

BIGGEST plus for the new TKO 600 is they can handle 600 ft/lb of torque. You can beat them up pretyy good and they can take it. Lots of clients using them and no one has blow one up yet.

Good luck
