Default Top loader shifters

Hey Gang,
I am getting a shelby 4000 series and have a 427 and a top loader to put in it. I am wondering who makes the best shifter, where I can get one, and how much they cost. Thanks.

Go with the classic Hurst Competition Plus with the reversed "correct" Mustang shift handle and knob.

Check out your options here at David Keys place.

Click on the SHIFTERS button link on the main page.

Default I got my setup from Kirkham's

I know many people use the competition plus and love it. But when I got mine it I didn't like it. It was hard to get it into reverse. The trigger on the handle doesn't work, etc.

So I got an original style shifter with hiem jointed rods from the Kirkhams and have been really happy with it.

You might want to consider it.
Cost is about the same as the hurst with a modified cobra handle.

Chuck

Thanks for the info Chuck. Who do I contact for more info regarding the Kirkham shifter. I know they were at SEMA and I got a dvd from them, but I don't think I got their contact info.

RrAzEcJ, how do I find your gallery? I am a newbie to this site. Thanks
John(;-)

I bet that Kirkham shifter and linkage originated at David Keys! Sloopy linkage pivot points is a major problem on top loaders, thats why the hiems. Last I heard Keys was out of stock on the linkage, selling like hot cakes!

On Keys site several different model shifters are available. Not to mention the new alloy case for a top loader! I recently rebuilt my top loader and checked out several sources for parts. Keys had more parts and options than any other site I found.

Default Kirkham Shifter

I had been e-mailing David Kirkham about the shifter and he said they make the linkage themselves. I'd think you could send him a PM here or through sales@kirkhammotorsports.com which is the contact us link on their website. I think the remanufactured shifter body is available other places too, like National Parts Depot. And my handle and knob came from Bill Heeley (301) 774-6710.

I don't know what David Kee has available for the mustang shifter but no doubt whatever he does have is top notch. I'm just telling you what I was told about the source of the linkage.

Or just buy Turk's, that's one stop shopping

Chuck

John, click on the camera icon next to my name. Every thing you see in the Transmission pictures are from David, the aluminum Toploader, the shifter and shifter handle. The setup I recieved from David a week ago is a Hurst Competition Plus, model# (373 7637) which David does some modifications to.

Default Congrats

Congrats, I think you'll like it. If you have any questions after it shows up just holler.

Turk is a good guy, but... he has this unsettling habit of selling whatever I just bought! LOL Makes me think I'm not on the bleeding edge of cobra technology or something?

Let's look at the facts...

1) Turk USED to have an ERA
2) Turk USED to have a Kirkham toploader shifter

I won't even mention my desire to build a tunnel port motor!

Creepy isn't it

Just kidding, enjoy the shifter.

Chuck
