Hi folks,
My v-8 modified TVR car transmission gives me headaches...anybody here to help me out?
The transmission is a 1986 Doug Nash 5 speed. Some older ERAs received the same units I think. I had it opened recently to check the internals..everything was O.K. It was originally filled with ,I believe, straight 90 SAE gear
oil. I've refilled it with Castrol Syntech 75-90. I had checked the Richmond web site and saw their recommendation as for using modern syntech
oil in their new transmission wich are similar to Doug Nash.
After having reinstalled the transmission and hurst shifter all in place I've experimented weird gear grinding noise that seems to be out the transmission..very odd: Wnen I try to shift from first to neutral the grinding gear noise start and won't quit whatever I do:clutching in or out..I then have to stop the engine. Waiting few minutes I would restart the engine and it then might be O.K. for few minutes in neutral but trying to shift the gears it will start the grinding noise again .I have observed the problem taking place exclusively after the motor will have reached full running temperature...another odd thing!
After many hours looking into what could have been done wrong in my rebuilding /reinstallation time one thing coming back is the change of
oil type and grade...could it be as simple as this??
help is appreciated,thanks,
Ronald,Greenwater.
