Default Ford Toploader

Hello. I am building a 1966 Ford Fairlane to race in SS/E class. I would like to run a Ford toploader tranny, but am concerned about the durability of this unit. Would I be better off running a Jerico or something similar? Does anyone know where would be the best place to buy a toploader?

Get a hold of David Kee.There will be no durability issues.

He built a NASCAR toploader with his roadrace bearings and changed it to a wide ratio .Never any issues.

He has just released a 2.87 first gear.

His parts & service are second to none.

The big I/O toploader is almost indestructable.

1969 Torino with a big block. RUG-AJ.

It's monster and can handle a lot.

Call David Kee

Smile transmission options.....

The rules give you little option in terms
of transmission choices. Since FE powered
'66 Fairlanes either had a top-loader or a
C6 auto, that's what you have to use. Some internal mods are allowed to the
transmission, but the case has to be of
the type originally installed by the manufacturer. As the name implies,
super stock basically means "stock."
Same for the engine, it has to be iron block (Genesis iron blocks are approved) and iron heads, (there is a list of approved heads) no aftermarket rods.
Aftermarket pistons are acceptable as long as they are not lighter than stock
pistons and the top side configuration
is the same as stock. Stock cast iron
intake manifold (exact repro pieces are
usually acceptable) and stock carb. About
the only area where there is leeway is
camshafts, you can use just about any
cam you want as long as the rest of the
valve train remains fairly stock.
Personally, if I was building an FE
Fairlane for super stock competition,
I'd use a C6 transmission. Stick cars
are too much of a headache which is
why they have largely disappeared from stock and super stock. Stick cars have much more driveline breakage because of the shock loading, suspension tuning is more difficult because you can't really pre-load the drivetrain on the line like you can with an auto. Then, you'll eat up clutch discs and pressure plates like they're going out of style. You might get 5 runs out of disc and pressure plate before it becomes toast. If your
clutch is toast and you have 90 minutes
before the next round, you'll be a busy
little beaver under the car getting a
new one in and its rather deflating to
give your oponent a bye run because
you couldn't get your car ready in time.
Since the competition is extremely close, the launch is often where it is
won or lost. Auto cars simply do it better there.

....Fred
