Default TKO 600 Stuck in 3rd Gear

I need a little help. SPF2207 has only 500 miles and she is stuck in 3rd gear. I have a TKO600 5 speed. The clutch will engage but the it will not pop out of third no matter how hard I try. I drove home in third gear. Luckily it was only a few miles. I dropped the clutch while moving thinking it would help it free itself and nothing changed.

Any ideas?

Kurt

You can put it in third or put it into what fells like neutral. If you try to put it in any other gear or reverese it will not engage. I had to depress the clutch and have two people push me backwards out of my parking spot so I could move forward and drive home.

When you say other gears will not engage, do you mean the gear lever just won't go there OR do you mean that it appears to go into gear but the box is still in neutral? Sorry about all the questions!

Am I right in thinking that the 3rd 4th shift on that box is a straight pull back on the stick?

It does not click into the other gears at all and can not be forced down into the positions. In neutral it will swing back in forth as though it were in neutrual but is not. I learned this when let off the clutch. It is clearly stuck in third.

As for thr third forth postion, you are correct. It is straight down from third.

No problem on the questions, I appreciate the any help.

I'm guessing at a selector problem. If you can get at the top of the box unbolt the cover where the gear lever attaches and lift it off. On some boxes the bottom of the gear lever can disengage from the selector rods in which case the repair is simple (shift the selectors back into neutral and replace the lever). The bottom of the gear lever may have broken off or damaged, that's another possibility. If you can't get at the top of the box I guess it's transmission out time. It's hard to believe that such a new box has anything really seriously wrong; on the other hand a 472 is a pretty serious motor; how hard were you driving it when it broke?

On a 3550, which is similar, I had the pin break that attaches the shift rail to the shift fork. Seems if this happened it wouldn't move the tranny out of third, or into any other gears. If you're mechanically inclined, you'll need to get at the top of the tranny and take the access plates off to see if the shifter is actuating the shift rails correctly. In my ERA that's a pain as you have to take the seats and the transmission tunnel out. Can't think of any reason that it would do this that isn't going to require you or someone else to do this.

Then again, I only say this becuase I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night :-)

I will take a look this weekend and see if this could be it.

I have not driven hard as I still am in my breakin range.
