Identifying a transmission
How can I tell the model of the transmission in my car. It's a tremic 5 speed.
Is there an easy way to distinguish a T5 from a 3550 etc.?
Thanks, John

If the transmission tag is still on it a 3550 will have TR3550 on it along with a number that starts with 260XXXX, as for the T5 its number will start with 13-52-XXX-XXX. Also T5 cases will also have a 13-52-XXX-XXX casting numbers on them. Yet another way to tell is this, the 3550 looks almost identical to a TKO600 and it will have a couple of, roughly, 4"x4" tin plates on the top of it along with the shifter top. jimig@standardtransmission.com

The easiest way is the shifter that is bolted to the top of the transmission, on the TKO600 or TKO500 the shift top is rectangular. On the 3550 the four bolts towards the back of the transmission will be in somewhat of a square pattern and the two front bolts will be closer together. Another way is by looking at the tag, a TKO600 or TKO500 will have a TCETxxxx number on it and the old 3550 will not have that number on it. jimig@standardtransmission.com

Pic does not come out so well as posted. Reads TR-3550-11 TCET5008, is what I believe it says.

The TCET5008 shows that you have the .64 overdrive gear. jimig@standardtransmission.com

Does MSK 11734 (on driver's side aft) give any indication of which transmission it is? I can't get close enough to the tag to read it yet but I'm working on it.
