Default Need to buy Tremec TKO 600 - where to buy?

I'll soon be needing a Tremec 600TKO, with the .82 5th gear. Where's the most inexpensive place to get this unit? Anyone find a good deal out there? Anyone have any input at all - who's good to deal with, or just as importantly, who's not? Thanks.

I bought mine at Forte's I think they are in Boston. Not sure if they were the best deal or not but they were good to deal with and they had em' in stock. I just made the mistake of getting the .64 OD instead of the .82. Other than that the trans has been fine.

Rockland Standard Gear (www.rsgear.com). I had them blueprint my TKO600 and it shifts GREAT. It will also operate at a lower temp and be much more reliable. Good prices too. Best of luck!

Tremec advertises in many of the major auto magazines and the ad lists Tremec's ten largest dealers. Two of them off the top of my head are Keisler Engineering and Dark Horse Performance. There's Jimi G. of Standard Transmissions, who's a Club sponsor and has a forum here. Jegs and Summit Racing may also sell them.

I bought two from Standard Trans and was very pleased with transaction. Good source of knowlege also. I would have made a beginner mistake if it were not for their advise.

I got mine from Eric Swarr at Swarr Auto. He had the best price I found and shipped immediately.

I've heard a rumor that TTC/Tremec has a mandated "mininum street price" in the dealer license. Is this true?
Does anyone know what the mandated minimum price on the TKO 600 is? What's the dealer cost?
Just curious how the market works for these things. It seems odd that for an approximately $2000 item everyone's within about $100 of each other.

I bought mine from Standard Trans(Jimi G). Couldn't be more pleased with the service, knowledge, BEST PRICE, and everything was at my front door in two days to Delaware.

Bruce Couture is a class act.

I called Standard Transmission but I didn't talk to Jimi. The guy I talked to didn't leave the most pleasant impression on me.

I know who fed you this. Probably also told you Ford Racing could lose the Tremec line due to this... I'm sure Tremec wants to upset Ford with all those transmissions they buy for their production vehicles...

No conspiracies, Jay. I was told this conversationally. I have no idea what you're talking about re: Ford and Tremec, nor do I have any particular interest in it.

Guys,
I was just offered a chance to buy a Tremec 3550 used for a fairly cheap price. I still want the TKO-600. My question is if I throw in the 3550 temporarily just to get the car going more inexpensively, then swap for the 600 down the road, is it a straight swap? Are the lengths of the transmission, input/output shaft size and spline, shifter, etc the same? If anything is different, what is it? Thanks.

Don't take this the wrong way but you seem to be throwing parts at the car because they are a great deal and then looking to replace them correctly down the line... you are basically building 2 kits now. But the one you want the first time.

Actually, no, just the one because it's such a big expense, in fact the biggest single expense on the car. It's unlikely that I'll do it, but I'd just like to know what my options are.

That is true, Tremec has set a selling price that the distributors can not go under, the TKO500 have to sell for $1895.00 and the TKO600 is $1975.00. jimig@standardtransmission.com

I found my TKO 500 brand new on Ebay for $1400. Some guy bought it and his car burned to the ground before he had a chance to install it. It still had the "plug" on the end of the tailshaft and was in the Tremec box.

Thanks, Jimi. I figured it was something like that. There was too much similarity in everyones pricing to be a coincidence. Thanks.

The length, shape and mounting plates are the same on the TR3550 and the TKO's. There is a possiblity that the input shaft spline count and the output spline count will be different, but all you would have to do is replace your disk and driveshaft yoke. jimig@standardtransmission.com
