TKO 600 shifter location question
I have a Contemporary Cobra that I'm installing a FE with a TKO 600. It's my first Tremec, and I have what I hope is a simple question. I have a bent forward original type shifter handle, and I'd like it to come out of the tunnel in as original a location as possible.
The transmission was shipped to me with the shifter plate ad assembly mounted on the aft most shifter mount point on the transmission case. It appears that the shifter can be mounted on this point in two different positions, one with the shifter handle in the rear most position of the aft shifter mount point, and another mounting option with the shifter plate mounted again on the rear most mounting point on the transmission case, but with the plate rotated 180 degrees, with the shifter handle now in the front position of the rear most mounting point. Which position will give me the original shifter location with the bent forward handle in a 427 S/C type car?

On my Kirkham the rear most position is damn close to center on the default hole in the trans tunnel as deliver from Kirkham.

For non Kirkham reference, where does the shifter exit the tunnel, lets say in reference to the seat bottom cushion? Mid seat, 3" forward of seat, etc.... just trying to get an idea here where the shifter shold exit so I get the right spot. Thanks.

Here you go ..
TKO 600 rearmost position. This is an ERA, YMMV I have had problems with the accordian boot .. it was popping me out of 3rd when lifting the throttle, so I moved the hole 1/2" forward, now it pops me out of 4th I have ordered a leather boot ..

Short thrown shifter
SSSammy Kiesler has a short thrown shifter housing. Steeda also has one. They are about 200-250 dollars. You will have to check with the companies that sell them. There might be only 1 location for there shifters. Rear mounting area. If the boot is centerd on your tunnel and the boot is low on the shaft, it shouldn't be knocking the car out of gear. Have a good one Rick L.

Worse case, you may have to engineer an extention like I did. No big deal, but I had to move the pivot point forward about 4 inches.
Just a little more info.

Ok for now :)
Thanks Rick and Tru. I don't want to hijack 767's thread .. I'll see how the leather boot works. The hole was centered, but the accordian bunches up and acts as a spring. When you let off the throttle, boing! I moved the hole 1/2" and all it did was shift the spring around to the other side of the hole
If that fails, then I'll follow up on the mechanical ideas. And there's an earlier thread about going for a similar boot from an Alpine Tiger.

About the same as in the picture of the ERA from SSSammy
