Cracked TKO Housing :(
I think I did this when bolting up the tranny with the input shaft not properly centered in the clutch disc .. stoopid! It leaks tranny fluid like a hose! I highlighted the hairline crack with pencil lead so it would photo.
What's the best fix here? Should I have the entire housing replaced? Or is it weldable. If it's weldable, would I have to have the tranny disassembled so they could weld the inside of the crack?

I think that should come under your warranty. Contact whoever you bought it from and ask to exchange it for a new one. <seriously>

The only proper way to weld such a thick section is with pre-heating, so yes - the transmission will have to be completely disassembled.

You may be better off with a replacement case.
As strictlypersonl pointed out, with section thicknesses like this, disassembly and preheating will be necessary. When the welding process has been completed you run the risk of case distortion that may require re machining. In the long run the replacement route may be both simpler and more psychologically comfortable after you are done.
The upside (if there is one) is that the transmission is not difficult to take apart and put back together and it is a great educational experience that will give you an intimate understanding of how it works.

You should really contact someone who rebuilds trannys for a living. Anything can be welded, but it would have to be dis-assembled and really cleaned ... and welded by someone who has done that kind of welding before. Thats a very heavy part of the case.

Take it to a good Tig welder. He can drill hole's at the ends of the cracks, groove the cracks, then Tig it all. Grind and smooth the area for appearance.

I can remember when I missed a shift into 3rd gear in my 6 month old Olds 442. Destroyed everything. Case was even warped. Thankfully, it was replaced under warranty. The worst part was not driving the car for almost 2 weeks while the dealer squabbled with the factory.

I appreciate all the levity  I need some laughs .. yes I'm going to call Jimi and see about a case swap. I bought the unit from him and their shop is an hour drive from here. I don't want to try to learn how to build a TKO one week before Run n Gun .. I need a quick, reliable fix.

Contact Jimi at Standard Trans and ask what they would charge to swap the case.
It may be less than you think.

I cracked one of my first TKO's the same way. A friend of mine is an exceptional welder and he welded it up for me. Never leaked again. This will require you to take the tranny apart, but it will be cheaper than a new case.
