might rebuild Toploader

Hello all,

I am thinking when I remove my body to send it out to have it painted if I should rebuild my Toploaders Trans.

The reason for the rebuild is because it is leaking from the 3 shifter levers.

The tranny is perfect no complaints but I feel now is the time to do it.

Your thoughts?

I hate leaks. Rebuild it. Toploaders are reasonable to rebuild too.

I sell Toploader rebuild kits, along with any new parts that you may need. Give me a buzz if you decide to do it. It's leaking from the 3 o-rings that go around each shifter cam inside the case. Unfortunately, you have to strip down the whole transmission to get them out....LOL

I hate asking this question but how hard is it to rebuild this transmission.

I figured if you have rebuilt a manual transmission before they are usually all the same.
Are there any surprises in rebuilding this unit?

They're not bad at all if you have a nice clean place to work. There are lots of little parts including small bearings, springs, detents, etc. There are many good downloadable manuals that you can snag before you start.

You will need a good pair of snap ring pliers, and a pencil magnet. It's much easier to remove/install bearings with a press and bearing pullers, but you can do it without.

I guess when the body comes off for paint, the trans is getting rebuilt in the meantime.
