Default Mod motor and SBF pattern the same???

O.K. you knowledgable Mod gurus, I am not.I have a running discussion with another individual regarding the bellhousing pattern on the Mod engine vs. the SBF. I am under the impression from several articles and the FRPP catalog that the Mod motor has a unique pattern to the SBF and he informs me that they are the same. He's not a Ford person, but claims to be a tranny swap guy( whatever that is). Some input please??

I called Sean Hyland and he informed me that they are completely different, which is what I suspected. If there is any other input though, as to adaptability, I'd like to hear.Thanks.

If it is simply a bellhousing issue then Quick Time makes the housings to mount anything to anything it seems...

It's an issue of whether a SBF pattern will bolt directly to the Mod engine. A guy is installing a Mod motor in an early 'stang and was interested in what trannies would bolt to it that were stock, it was suggested to him that he could bolt any SBF bellhousing pattern up to it. He's doing it for someone else and is trying to avoid adapters if possible, I already told him about adapters for the manual as well as a C4.

I do believe that the 1992 Mod had the same bolt pattern as the 5.0 (95% sure). Then they went to the other pattern. Knowing Ford there well could have been some carry over into some later cars. Also there are two Mod engine plants and they are not identical.

Anyway the first year Mod with the same bolt pattern as a 5.0 also had a different starter. One bolt more or less - not sure.

There should be lots of 1992 crown vics in the junk yards, if you wanted a block that would bolt up. I hope that helps.

We just put a 4.6 DOHC in a '67 Mustang and bolted op a T-56 to it with a Quick Time bell. The shifter is perfectly centered in the factory opening.

Hi WDZ,
The SB Ford bellhousing bolt pattern includes 1965 & up 289, 302, 351-W & 351-C. The 4.6 ltr. mod engine from Lincolns, Mustangs & 5.4 ltr. in the 2000 Cobra R, GT-40 & truck are totally different from the SB Ford. The 157 tooth flywheel SB Ford has a 2 bolt starter & mod engine has a 3-bolt starter. The 4.6 T-45 & TR 3450 have an integral bellhousing so swaps are out with mod trannies.
I hope this info helps. Call me with any questions.

In 1993 Mike made the first conversion of a Ford Tremec to GM 5-speed. It bolts to stock bellhousings w/out an adapter. The FE Tremec, the Mustang adjustable quadrant are originals from Mike.
