PDA at Pocono
I will probably be at the track on Saturday 7/20 to do some testing and have some fun. The North course is the most enjoyable of the short courses. You will really enjoy it. Hope to see you there.

I will be there also on Sat. the 20th. I'm really excited, but kind of nervous about it. It's my first real track event, all my prior experience is autocross. Plus I'm just a little 'ol 302 running on street tires. Please don't run me over.

Klay,
Don't worry...just use your mirrors and give 'point-bys' to the faster cars so they can get around you.
- You may also want to buy a larger clip on mirror for your dash and secure it with zip ties so it doesn't blow off. Better to see the traffic. This is a very important point.
- Do not drive beyond your means. Leave your testosterone at home. listen to the car, the track and the insructor. In that order!
Get an instructor or do a 'lead-follow' with someone that knows the line.
Best of luck and welcome to the 'Dark Side'!!!!!!!

John,
Thanks for the advice. Believe me, I won't be doing any unneccesary wild driving out there. I don't want to kill myself, anyone else, or my dream Cobra. That's the first thing we preach at autocross, and participants get thrown out for unsafe driving.
I definitely plan to run behind an instuctor as much as possible. I'm going to run Pocono again in August, and maybe then I'll run more solo laps, but I want instruction in July. I can't have someone ride with me, due to only having one roll bar. But I'm going to try to run in the instructors tire tracks inch for inch. More than anything, I just don't want to get in the way of, or run over by, people in 500+ hp Cobras on race tires.
Tell me more about the mirror set up. You can see my photo gallery. I have the small dash mirror, which is decent. The outside mirror on the drivers side is basically useless. I can tell something is there if a car pulls right to my left rear corner, but not much else. What type of mirror do you suggest, and where exactly do you put it?
Also, how about an in car camera? Any idea how to set that up?
Steve

Steve,
I know Cranky uses a wide angle mirror, slightly larger than the standard Cobra mirror to help with peripheral vision, but it get a little jerky at speed. Its like 3'' x 7 ''. Mount it right over the existing mirror with zip ties.
As far as a camera goes...You need a camera mount and a digital camera, analogs don't work too good. You need the 'shake feature' turned on, in applicable.
If you like the Pocono event (a number of Club Cranky memebrs will be in attendance) why not come up to Watkins Glen with us in August and October. Oct. is a 3 day event and our Club Cranky end of season finale. Check for other threads on All Racing Talk for the particulars.
You don't have to be the fastest one, just one that wants to give it a go and experience something new. In fact, you don't even need to bring a car, just come enjoy the knuckle dragging. (i.e....Me Cro-Mag!)
All are Welcome at our events. We've got plenty of tools, drinks, food and fun.
Hope to see you soon!
JM

Thanks John,
I really hope to get up to Watkins Glen one day. But that's got to be a 7 hour drive from me (I'm an hour northwest of Philly). Even if I just bring my daily driver to watch, I'd like to see it. October won't work, because the wife and I are leaving for a long vacation a few days later, and I'm sure we'll have lots to do that weekend.
I plan to have a blast at Pocono. I'm addicted to autocross, so I can imagine how much I'll like this. What kind of speeds do you reach at Pocono?

Jim,
The tranny is fine, made some rear spring weight changes, was told I turned a sub-minute lap while dicing with a sports racer and lightweight Jag at LRP. Tires are marginal, may or may not have a new set for The Glen. See you soon.

To all Going to Pocono,
Just a note, For all of you that require race fuel, they never have the pumps open at Pocono, you will have to bring your own along. I found out the hard way a few years back and had to scrounge for fuel. For those running pump gas, there is a station just up the road from the track.

For Your Info,
Gas prices in my area are around $1.35. I paid $1.08 saving .27 per gallon thru a company that sells $200 gas cards for $160 which is a 20% savings. And you can use these anywhere in the USA at pumps that except Master card or Visa. Thats like getting a free tank of gas for every 5 fill ups. I can enjoy my L.A. Exotics Cobra more now. For more info goto my web page www.allanarmstrong.appgas.com or e-mail me at cobraallan@yahoo.com

Roscoe, the amount of fuel you will need is proportional to the amout of time your right foot is planted to the floor. Bring your car in with a full tank and fill up the two jugs you have and that should be plenty.
Cranky
BTW I may show up as a spectator/ photographer for this event. I am not signed on as a instructor for Pocono but will be instructing at the Glen in Oct. I'll go in any Cobra that has a rollbar for the passenger side.

Roger,
Thanks, I guess I'll gas up at that station just before the raceway and bring my jugs. Hope Bill K. will let me stash them in that nice brandy new trailer of his.
Hope you can make it and play 'Jimmy Olsen" and maybe give us all some pointers. Who brings the Tangeray??

Roscoe,
Yer doin' just fine!!!!! We'll expect you guys to carry the Club Cranky torch at Pocono!!!!!
In addition, everyone one of you maggots better be signing up for PDA at the Glen in October!!!!
Steve,
The mirror that Roscoe shows is a reall good mirrior to use, you just need to keep it from slipping around when the winf buffets the interior.
Maybe I'll make it up to Pocono too to watch.

Roscoe,
It really depends on how hard you drive and how many sessions you go out in. I usually fill my fuel cell in the car and bring along 3 to 4 5 gal. jugs for a one day event. I don't get great mileage and I usually push the car hard. You could also mix the racing fuel with regular pump 50/50 and still be O.K.
