Pocono Date and Contact
Cranky,
What date(s) are you running at Pocono, and who are you booking with?
Thanks.

We use Pocono for fill in dates or test and tune. We don't schedule any Pocono dates.

You see, senior Club Cranky members have evolved and no longer consider Pocono to be worthy of their countenance. Pocono is now considered a 'go cart' track to them.
Unfortunately some don't realize that Pocono is a great place to start. There is little chance on getting into trouble and it is a good place to break in (no pun.) I think for a novice (myself included) to go up to the Glen as a first time or two is asking for trouble. You will either damage your car or blow an engine. "A man's got to know his limitations." or "Your ego's writing checks your body can't cash!"
As for me, I'll be getting up to the Glen soon; and yes Cranky, before Hell freezes. I do need to arrange a trailer just in case. I have driven up there and it is a nice ride but if there is trouble I'd like to know I can get home.
By the way, the PDA Schedule is here

Roscoe,
I will agree with you regarding your Pocono statements....with the exception that the track is not run quite as well as the Glen nor is it maintained as well. But yes, it is a good place for a newbie to start, ask Klayfish!
Now for newbies at the Glen...I was one. I cut my teeth there in 1997 in my Unique. I had just replaced the 390 with the 428 literally the night before we left for the track. The car performed well, but the driver needed more seat time!
My first instructor was Bill Connelly from Upstate Super Replicars (Daytonas). He took the time to show me how to drive the Glen...THE RIGHT WAY!
Was I nervous? Can you spell Depends?
Was I slow? Can you say Molasses?
Did I have a ball?
HELL YES!!!!!
So go be with Ruth Buzzi and enjoy a lackluster screw....plenty of newbies have whipped out ther tiny peckers to show Miss Anderson...sometimes she'll stroke you gently and other times she'll rip yer pecker out by the roots.
Either way, its always worthy of a good smoke afterwards.

Fergot to mention.....
Quite a number of the Crankoids do go to Pocono, I am just not one of them. Been there a few times in the past, but maybe someone can coax me out there again.

Roscoe,
I ran at Pocona Last October and found out my car does not like those tight corners. I will agree it is a good place to get a taste for Open Track.
Watkins Glen is as safe as you make it. If you drive over your head you will get into trouble. If you know your abilities and drive within them, no reason you can't drive to the track and drive home again. Lots of guys do the same every year.
If Trader Bill can show at the Glen, it should be easy for anybody else.

I believe I am ready for the Glen and have no apprehension at all. My issue is that if there is a problem I will need a trailer to get home.

Roscoe,
I hear ya...but we do have an extensive technical base and all the tools to repair. Only issue would be a major break or crash...same could be said for Pocono.
But Terry Shank just bought a semi with a box on tha back. If we had to, we could probably throw a Cobra in there!

Good grief! Yes, the track at Pocono leaves a lot to be desired. And I've never been to other tracks, so I can't compare. The pavement is in poor shape in spots. But, it is a thrill to run wide open down the tracks' long straightaway. And for beginners, it is a lot of fun. Yes, from what I can see it is relatively spinout friendly. Last time I was there, some kid rolled his brand new (i.e. less than 1000 miles) M3, but that's because he was playing 2 Fast, 2 Stupid. The one instructor (forgot his name, big guy, lots of muscles), nearly went postal on the kids' friends who were doing the same thing. But if you drive with your head instead of your nuts, you'll be fine.
I'd LOVE to go to other tracks too, but for me, like Roscoe, I've got no tow vehicle. So Pocono is closest. Watkins Glen and VIR are 5+ hours away. For now, I'll take what I can get, as open track is a blast, and if all I can manage is Pocono, so be it. As soon as I can get to the Glen, I will.
Sounds like we've got lots of interest in Pocono. Why don't we all pick one date and meet up there. Maybe we can convince some of the senior Crankoids to come, and maybe get some first timers too?
Steve
