Default NJ Drivers- FYI

This was emailed to me. Don't know if it is true, but I figured that I'd pass it along b/c it very well may be true.

Re: NJ Law 39:3-29

Starting on January 1st, 2004 the price of a ticket for violation of NJ Law 39:3-29 (failure to show your driver's license, registration, or insurance card at the time you are stopped) is going from $44.00 to $173.00. Please make sure your vehicles have the proper documents in them. If you jump in the car to run to the store and forget your wallet with your license in it and you are stopped.... Oh well..., you just spent $173! And the fine for not having all three documents is $519!!!

Just another example where the government gets away with legal extortion by putting their hand in your pocket and stealing your hard earned money.

Forward to people in NJ, and let them know of this change and be careful!

It's true..................However, if your stupid enough to drive in a manner in which your going to get pulled over in the first place, that alone speaks for itself.............Just how fast do you need to drive to the store???

Talking

personally, if elected to office, I will institute the death penalty for repeated parking violations.

1: First violation you get your car ticketed
2: Second violation, you get your car impounded and you get an overnight stay with your new friend and cellmate "bubba"
3: Third violation, ZAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let the laws of nature take over after that...................

Unhappy Ah...

God forbid somebody should slip off their brake pedal and butt-end you while sitting at the light, MrM. After you have run out of the house without your wallet, of course.

But. None of use would ever do that, of course.

I don't know about back there but up here they will pull cars over once in a while for a safety check. They have to have a reason so it is always your rear tire looks low or something like that, but while you are stopped lets check everything and look at your license and so forth. It has nothing at all to do with how you are driving, just if the patrolman is having a boring day I think.

Pulling cars over is one thing but in Fairfield they periodically set up roadblocks to check cars inspection sticker and if you are wearing your belt.

Can anyone say 4th Amendment?

Bill,

In my 46 years of driving I did forget my wallet once. I was working on the car and had changed pants. Decided to go fill the gas tank, gas was around a dollar a gallon then, and when I started to pay I had left the wallet in my other pants. The station was about 1 mile from my house and one that I used often. They were so trustful they demanded that I leave 4 kinds of identification and I think the gas bill was about $9 dollars. I had my check book only and they wouldn't take a check. So then they wanted me to leave the car keys while I went home to get my wallet. I asked them which one was going to drive me home and then it sunk in that if I left them the keys I couldn't drive the car. I never told them I had an extra set with me at all times. Moral of story, is that it is possible to leave your wallet behind.

Mr. M
You don't understand, the government wants to control you by controlling you wallet.
I guess you were never stopped for; tail light out, blinker not working, wearing a seat belt check point, missing front license plate, hair a little too long, etc. give me a break they stop you and everyone else all the time, because it's easier then busting drug dealers.

Nope, my only unjustified stop was back in 1983 at 2am....My Black 1982 Mustang GT matched the description of a getaway vehicle in a late night robbery some miles away(after that incident, I painted on a set of bright gold BOSS 302 style stripes sop has to stand out from the crowd)...I of course was just leaving my job at the local roller rink, and got stopped less than a mile from it.......The government does not control my wallet provided I'm not stupid enough to let them......it all goes back to how you justify your own driving habits. If I get pulled over for doing 45 in a 35 zone, I'm man enough to take my lumps and learn from it, instead of whining about how much it's going to cost me for driving in that manner..........I'm sorry, I don't buy in to the government conspiracy crap, if you do, you need to take a step back and rethink.......

Bill, you dont think that cops target cars that look fast or sound fast....or people that "look like" trouble? I'd say you were pure lucky that you were only pulled over once for resembling a description. When I was young, I was pulled over in my black '69 camaro all the time...for trivial things. Fast forward 20 years later and I have never been pulled over in my Discovery...never. If I drive 71mph in my Discovery I can drive the rest of my life and never be bothered, but if I do the same in the Cobra I think I can bank on losing my license in about 8000 miles. (you do drive 71 mph, dont you?)

Let me just say, I dont think the Gov't wants to control my wallet through my car. But, cops are human. There are cops that hate white people, there are cops that hate black people, there are cops that are nazis, there are cops that hate SUVs and there are cops that hate flashy cars and motorcycles, that will never change. I feel the gov't controls my wallet through taxes and politics not though local the local police force.

Now, using your own words (slightly modified):

Let me just say, I dont think the Gov't wants to control my wallet through my car. But, people are human. There are people that hate white people, there are people that hate black people, there are people that are nazis, there are people that hate SUVs and there are people that hate flashy cars and motorcycles, that will never change.

Funny when you read my version and your version they sound completely different, yet still the same........

I know plenty of people in the law enforcement community, yes, they all have their own "quirks", but, they are still out there to do a job....The only ones who pull people over because of the car they drive have a tendancy to want to see the car, not write a ticket (at least in regards to the Cobras/Shelbys/Mustangs I've owned over the past 20 years), either that, or they are new to the force and are still riding the initial power trip..............

Just my further two cents worth...........

Bill S.

Some Cops forget that it is JUST A JOB!! some should not be doing this job. 95% are straight honest hard working people that have a crappy job to do sometimes. DOA auto accidents have to bother any cop. A child that gets killed is the worst. Cps in my local write an average of 2 tickets a day. The Rookies write more.If you are honest with most cops, they let you go without a ticket or just a warning. Say yes and no and keep it simple. Cursing at them only starts sh*t and you will lose. I drive a dually on the turnpike and they make it a class 3 even though there are only 2 axles and it is rated for 6000 lbs. A toll collector gave me the wrong ticket 1 night and I gave the correct change for the truck and pulled through. 100 yards up the road the State police where sitting and flagged me down and said I didnot paid the toll. The police wanted to arrest me, the collector made the mistake, and showed them the ticket from entering. I was keep there for 1/2 hour and finally let go after a through vehicle check. A Lt. came by and I was gone but WARNED about toll collector have the right to change the tolls at their discretion. It's a 250.00$ fine next time and arrest. Common sense is going out the window in this country every day, to bad is is not part on the police test to get into the academy. Rick Lake

Bill, I am not one of those bleeding heart liberals, let me get that straight. BUT, if you had hair past you shoulders or were black you may be singing a different tune. I still think you were extremely lucky to have only been pulled over once in your lifetime.
I'll also go as far to say, if in your above description of how you got pulled over at 2am the cop yanked you out of the car at gunpoint, throwing you to the ground his knee in the back of your neck, cuffs tighter than they need to be and thrown in the back of a cruiser for an hour till they decide to let you go...your story might be different.

Anyway, I feel that being able to charge you over $500 for forgetting your wallet is highway robbery.
