Dyno Poll Questions

Guys,

If you guys wouldn't mind taking a second to answer a few questions that would be great. I'm taking an informal poll for a mechanic friend that is considering investing in a dyno for his shop.

1. How far would you (or even a non-Cobra friend) travel for a good dyno/tuning session?

2. If given the choice what type of dyno would you opt to have used on your car (chasis, engine, you don't care)?

3. What is the max you would spend for a dyno/tuning session(seems like the range is $125-$300/hr) for the job to be done right (not that you would ever go into a shop assuming it wouldn't be done right but you all know what I mean..I think)?

4. How does the availability situation for dyno work look in the northern NJ area in your opinion?

P.S. - That dyno down at CRII.5 was very cool. Anyone have an opinion about that set-up?

Josh, I certainly don't have a lot of experience with Dynos, but the Dynojet seem to be popular. I was trying to get an appointment with about four different dyno shops here in the Atlanta area a short while back before finally getting a Saturday appointment with a shop on the opposite side of town (1 1/2 hour drive one way). The shops around here seem to stay booked up. You're right on the rate-range. After having gone through a session, I think it's the only way to get a serious tune on your car. I recommend it highly.

Was it something I said? 49 views and only one response (thanks Tony!)? I think the ultimate outcome here is that we could actually get a guy with 20+ years experience as lead mechanic for professional race teams coupled with a 30+ year engine builder to potentially buy a dyno and maybe charge reasonable rates for dyno/tuning! Help me help us!!
