Default Free beer and pizza!!!

I know I'm asking a lot, but here goes.

Would anyone be willing to help me with a "build party"? I'm putting together a Mustang road race car. I bought a roller chassis, and now am in search of a drivetrain. I've got some leads.

Here's the hard part. I ain't a mechanic. Wish I were. I can certainly bring it to my mechanic/friend and have him install the driveline. However, I'd really like to learn some of this stuff and have a hand in building my own car. I've always wished I knew how to work on cars, and I'd like to be a part of this one. And yes...it'll save me some cash .

Would anyone be willing to help me do this? I don't have an engine hoist at my house, so I'll either have to borrow one or beg someone to let me use their place for the build party. I'll buy all the pizza and beer you can handle. Well...maybe the beer would start after the engine and trans are in....

Steve

Steve,
Does this mean you bought your FFR already built? Bring every thing to Florida, I have all the tools you will need plus you will be getting away from the lovely winter you have had so far this winter. I'm getting to old to actually pitch in so you will have all the hands on you will need. I still have all my own teeth so I can eat all the pizza and drink all the beer you can buy.

Steve,

Finally have my drivetrain in permanent....

I would be more then happy to drop off my hoist to you one day after work. She's a 2 1/2 ton, so I think she can handle just about anything you got.

No rush to take it back from you, whenever you are done with it is fine.

As for the build party, did someone say free beer?

Let me know, we can work out a day to drop it off to you.

Steve

I'll offer to let you camp here. You can have access to just about everything you would need. Tools, compressed air, welders, blasters and what ever else we would need to use. 52 foot barn.

Steve, PM me if you want more info.

krayfish Steve what are you looking for? Someone to show you how to put the car together? Or someone to drop the motor on the car over a weekend? If you have a heated garage, I am sure that a couple of us could come on a sat and drop the drivetrain in the car. You know where I live. Need basic tools and jack stands. A compressor is extra nice but need a 5hp 60 gallon to run airguns without problems. Rick Lake

Rick,

First he has to physically get the car, next he actually has to pick up a motor and transmission. On the car, it is the old owner and the weather which is making it difficult to achieve delivery (I know because I am suuposed to driv e out to Long Island to get it for Steve). On the motor, it is the original poster of this thread who cannot make up his mind as to what he actually wants to put in the car .

Thanks Bill. Yeah, I can't decide between a big block and a small block. Can anyone help me??

No, it's not for my Cobra. That's got an engine (though I did consider yanking it for this). As Bill said, he's picking up a roller for me. It's an '88 Mustang, set for open track. It needs to have a motor and trans dropped in it. Hopefully Bill will be able to grab it for me within a week or two (again, many, many thanks to him for doing me this HUGE favor). I've got good leads on drivelines, as soon as I can make up my freakin' mind...though I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a 351W a buddy is offering and a T5 being offered by another friend. I need to drop them into the car and put it together.

My mechanical skills and experience is limited to oil change and very minor things under the supervision of my friend/mechanic. But with the help of friends, I'd really like to try to drop the motor and trans into this thing and get it going. All I ask is that people be patient with me, because I don't know much about what I'm doing with a wrench.

I have a garage, but it isn't heated. I'm sure we can find someone local to offer to use a garage, or it should start warming up in a few weeks...at least I hope....

Steve;

I know it would be a long haul, but bring all your stuff down here to my shop in central Louisiana and I'll get a bunch of road racer friends over here one weekend and we'll all have a blast putting your car together with you..........

I know the logistics are not too good,if I were any closer, I'd be there in a New York minute.............

The 88 Mustang should make a very good track car and you will have a blast with it........I'm not too sure about the T-5 holding up to hard racing, you might want to keep an eye out for a good used toploader for a possible back-up trans for future use, they are practically indestructable......

BB or SB,for me,for road racing,no question, small block all the way........

hope all goes well with the car and have a blast driving it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! most fun you'll have with your pants on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David

John,
Remind me to smack you next time I see ya. On second thought...you may like it. You're right though, I shoulda bought it right from jump. You don't have any old parts laying around from it, do ya???

David,
Yeah, it would be cool to try to hook up one of these days, talk "shop". Obviously, I'm just yankin' chains, it's definitely small block motor. I'm hoping that the T-5 will be able to hold up for a while. If I go with the 351W I think I will, it's fairly stock out of a truck. I may do some headwork or a cam, but it still won't be a firebreather right away. Don't know how much power a stock 351W with no emmissions, fairly open exhaust and some head/cam work would make, but I doubt it's a huge number.

OK, the build party is definitely going to be next Saturday, the 16th. It's going to be in Pottstown, Pa. Figure we'll start around noon. Let me know if you can come out. I think I'm about all set with my parts.
