Default over flow tank?

HI
I have the long and narrow overflow tank made from brushed aluminum (in the shape of a tennis ball can).
can anyone tell me where I could mount this, pictures will be great!!
also, can I mount it vertically or horizontally? will it make any difference?

I have another solution. I used this on my old Mustang, and it works great. I mounted the Moon Equip. 2 qt. spun alum coolant recovery tank to the driver's side inner fender with self-tapping steel stud screws and ran the hose back up to the surge tank.


This allows for the coolant overflow when hot to burp into this tank while the surge tank connected to the intake manifold is always full. I used a 4 lb cap on the Moon tank and a 12 lb on the surge tank. When it cools off, any voids are siphoned back up into the surge tank and the total system always is full. Beats spilling out onto the road or garage. $107 from Moon. And it kind of keeps with the period correct theme.

Doesn't really matter where you mount your recovery tank, as long as you never let air into the system, or else it won't siphon. Fittings should always be at the bottom, so not a good idea to mount horizontally, unless the fitting for your hose it at the lowest point. Good luck.

Default Morosso makes one

Local speed shops sell a Morosso overflow tank out of aluminium about the size you are looking for. Vented with the inlet at the top and a petcock at the bottom.

It is best if you mount it vertically; if it's the can I'm thinking of, it has a typical radiator drain on one end, which goes in the down position, and a welded bung fitting on the other end. If you're going to use it as an overflow, make sure to vent the tank so that pressure does not build within. A small vent fitting can be used with a short stretch of hose so that fluids don't go all over the place should it become filled.

Overflows usually have a pickup tube (if connected to the radiator at their top) or fill from the bottom to ensure that what gets pushed out gets pulled back in as the engine cools. You can pull the drain and use this as the fill line - just be certain to vent the top of the can if you do.
