Question Va. inspections

Back when I was a lot younger, I remember that Virginia did not allow side pipes on any cars (they wouldn't pass safety inspections). Even when the '65 corvettes came out with side pipes, the dealers had to take them off before they could sell the cars. Did Virginia ever get their mind right and allow side pipes on Cobras and other classic cars?

I'm not sure what the "official" stance is, but there are several Cobra replicas in our little Capital Area Cobra Club and all have sidepipes. No state inspection problems that I'm aware of.

Smile sidepipes

Sidepipes are legal in VA, at least on your kit car and any vehicle that wasn't equiped with a catylic convertor. The law in Va for the past 20 years or so, has been that the exhaust must exit the body. So as long as the exhaust doesn't end beneth the body you're legal. See you at Burger King! (mine's the one without sidepipes)

To the best of my knowledge, side pipes are legal and there also isn't a noise spec for car inspections. The only problem can be making too much noise in a residential neighborhood and then they can give you a ticket for disturbing the peace. It isn't a vehicle violation, only a civil ticket.

I've had my Contemporary inspected in VA for 10 years and never had a problem.

Wink VA INSPECTIONS ?????

HEY GUYS,

IF YOU REGISTER YOUR CAR IN VIRGINIA AS AN "ANTIQUE CAR" OR AS A "VINTAGE CAR" THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SAFETY INSPECTION - - - NOR IS THEIR AN EMISSIONS INSPECTION - - - NOR DO YOU HAVE TO PAY VEHICLE PROPERTY TAX.

THE "OLD DOMINION" IS A VERY USER FRIENDLY STATE FOR CLASSIC CAR OWNERS. (NOT TO MENTION GUN OWNERS - AND JUST ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE).

Y'ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK
