Recently an option for Cobra activity in our area, that would be a season extender, and could also include those important spouses and significant others that play a big part of all our lives when owning a Cobra or other hobby car, was thrown out for interest and discussion.
The consensus that came out of our discussions was to again this year try for a Saturday run on the “Haw River Wine Trail”, which got rained out last year.
If you are not familiar with it, it is a collection of five wineries that are in the Burlington, NC vicinity that can be visited for tasting & purchasing purposes, over about a 3-4 hour period, and are spaced some 5-10 miles apart in the Burlington area.
The wife and I have made the run and it is a fun experience if you are into this sort of thing. Each of the wineries charged from 0-$6 to taste their wines and gave you a souvenir glass too.
The wineries include: Grove Winery, Creek Side Winery, Iron Gate Vineyards, GlenMarie Vinyards & Winery, & Benjamin Vineyards & Winery.
All of the roads to the wineries were paved except the last quarter of a mile leading up to one, and it may be paved by now. Either way it can be accessed without car damage.
More information can be had by going to
Haw River Wine Trail - Home.
The plan is for the tour to begin with a meet at the Red Robin Restaurant, at exit 140, off I-40/85, in Burlington for lunch at 11:00 AM, and then on to the nearby wineries. That is a good starting point for the tour.
The tour date will be Saturday, October 22, with a rain date of Saturday October 29. The weather should be cooler then and keep everyone positive between stops.
I look forward to seeing you on the Cobra ride of the Haw River Wine Trail.
